Default Techron time???

On the trip to and back from BG last week I noticed the gas gauge dropping in sections rather than smoothly while cruising down I-57.

Is this one of those things that Techron remedies?

Thanks!!

It's suppose to help. I run a bottle through about twice a year and I've not had that issue.

I do a bottle every 5000 miles.

Check out the Techron Plus. It's supposed to clean your fuel system too

Just had this happen to me the other day... Advanced auto parts I think had a buy a 20 0z. bottle get the second free so two bottles for $12 and change. It was either Advanced auto or Auto Zone. I bought two. Dumped one in, drove to fill up and no more problems since. Time to keep a regimen as others have stated.

Does filling up with name brand premium gas such as Shell, BP, and Mobil regularly help avoid this problem? I'd hate to spend and use additives unnecessarily.

Couldn't hurt and only costs pennies more. I use Shell most of the time and the only gas gauge issue I have had is that it registers near empty with 1/4 tank remaining. Better that than the alternative I guess. Ran a bottle of Techron through recently and noticed a slight but almost imperceptible difference.

From what I have read it should definitely help.. Up until my experience with it I had been purchasing QT premium and I think it's 91 octane?(Maybe I am wrong) But there is a BP as close to me as the QT and they sell 93 octane.

I have heard from some guys that buy 93 octane that they still treat once or twice a year. I am thinking that will be my routine..

You'll still need to do it most likely. I almost always use chevron 91, and while it might be our crappy CA gas, I still have to run 3-4 tankfuls of treatment thru occasionally.

I've used Techron in all my C5s and never had any gas gauge problem. For the small cost, worth putting it in the tank.

Keep in mind that the Techron may take some time to work. In the case of my C5, it took about a year and three separate Techron treatments over that period before the fuel gauge stopped acting erratically.

My thinking is that the sulfur deposits on the fuel sender rheostat take some time to dissolve.

I also think that using fuel with the equivalent of Techron in it prevents sulfur deposits.

Evil Twin said that running a tank of chevron fuel every four tanks would do the trick.

Or Texaco. If I'm traveling and can't easily locate Chev/Tex, I use Shell, BP, or Mobil and always 93. A bottle of Techron once or twice a year is a good practice I think.

No Citgo, Racetrack, Kangaroo, "Phred's Phuel" or any of the numerous off-brand cheapies.

Got my '99 new & been using Shell Preminum & Techron & have never had any gas gauge issues. I dump a bottle of Techron maybe once a month or so. If Shell is not available I use a top tier premium.

When traveling, also keep Chevron AND Texaco stations in mind, as they BOTH contain Techron.

Chevron & Texaco stations have all but disappeared here in the northeast. Shell 93.
