One of the perks of working for a car company I haven't taken either car to the drag strip or anything like that though I do track and autocross, so it's hard to tell on the street.
It's difficult to gauge speed because the c5 feels more raw, it's rougher, and it's louder. The c7 on the other hand is much more refined, smoother, and comfier (even though there's less space inside). The speed comes so smoothly that it doesn't feel like you're going that fast even though you do feel the sudden acceleration.
In terms of handling, the c7 seems much more settled near the limit and the feeling of the inputs (steering and throttle) are lighter and require less effort so it gives the overall impression that it's easier to drive than the c5. Even though the car is heavier (but shorter I think), it doesn't feel heavy. There's also automatic revmatch which works pretty well and would be handy instead of heel toeing at the track. The c7 also seems to have less body roll and the sensation of the car unsettling during transitions is less compared to the c5.
This is probably similar to some degree to the c5 vs c6 debate but I will say that the c7 is a "better" or more convenient car for daily driving but I still miss the sounds and raw feeling of the c5 even if it's slower. I drove the cars back to back last night (as did my girlfriend) and stepping back into the c5 felt like coming back home. Maybe my perception of things will change next week after I've had the c7 for a bit longer
newer is better hands down..why would corvette make a newer car thats less than my c5...heck, the car is 10 yrs old.....
so ,if money is no object..i would buy a new c7 tomorrow....but, after thinking about it, i would probably buy a low mileage Zr1 instead..!!
I'm waiting to see how my car stacks up performance wise against the C7Z... and I'm pretty sure if I parked next to a C7Z my thoughts would be different than vs the base C7.
As many others have said, the C5 looks sleeker, and is a more timeless design. Smooth curves seem to age so much better than edges, angles and creases. I'm sure the C7 will appeal to many, and I hope it does so the Corvette continues it's march through automotive history. That being said, there is no comparison in my humble C5 ZO6 owning opinion. I do think the artic white looks nice and would look nice on a C5. Designers must feel hamstrung by the pedestrian impact regulations, that C7 looks so tall. Everything in front of the C7 windshield looks swollen.

I would go with a ZR1 too. I would even go for a Viper before I bought a C7 at that price. But being that my wife works for a Corvette dealership I would probably end up with the ZR1 instead.

Have you run a ZR1? If you have you'll probably get your answer. The new Z06 and ZR1 ought to be damn close.
I would agree on that. The new Z06 looks significantly different than the base C7 IMO.
C5Z looks better from the rear and under hood, equally as good from the front and side but worse on the inside and I like the Arctic white better then the speedway.. oh and the $45k savings look better in your bank account
Yes, a few times.. I can definitely pull on a stock ZR1.
Pete what kind of numbers are you making with your LS7 Swap, Im curious how your build is compared to mine, Except I have a A4 Swap and a LS3 topend....

580hp/490tq to wheels...
I'm hurting on tq because I'm running a baby cam.. Stock intake and cats. After years of running a foul smelling car i needed a change.
This winter I'm planning on getting a bigger cam and doing something with the intake.
Looking to pick up 40hp/40tq... Theres just so much left on the table with this engine that im not taking advantage of.
