Default 1999 Vert Purchase ?

Found what seems to be nice 99 Convertible, about 127K miles at a little under 12K. A thousand miles from car so will have to go with a local mechanic there checking it out. Anything I should be requesting the mechanic to look for other than obvious? in MO we have to pass safety and emissions to start to license, any other issues people have had with 99's I should have them look for? Thanks

get an LMC5 for the column lock issue, mine had a bad outside temp sensor ($8 at autozone).

Really have to go 1000 miles to find one-seems a little radical.

Don't buy a car that has not had the DIC trouble codes pulled before and after being driven. Also, unless your guy is knowledgeable on C5s you are gambling.

Don't have time now to explain pulling codes but they should be first pulled and recorded and then cleared. Then the car should be driven and the codes pulled again. We can help you understand what they mean. You should at least have this done BEFORE you go that distance as a starting point.

Beauty's where you find it. I went 1,100 for my 2000. Va Beach to New Orleans.

To the OP. Hope it checks out well and enjoy the drive home.

Thanks little hesitant about the distance and realize the 1st thing the car has to do is drive 1100 miles home. It is in small town called Harligen (bottom of Texas) so 1st thing I have to do is find a shop in the town to do this.

There is a lot of good info in this thread, including a Corvette Buyers Checklist. Use it when looking at the car.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ion-files.html

It does seem like that is a long way to go for a 127K mile car though. Something closer would be a better choice, even if it cost a little more.

But good luck with whatever you decide.

Still seems radical for him being so close to some major markets. It would have to be a VERY, VERY SPECIAL car to get me to go 1000 miles for it, especially when your so close to St. Louis, pretty close to Chicago and Indy as well as Bowling Green (saw a few car places with LOTS of fun Vettes and other rods/muscle cars)
