I have a 98 and haven't had any issues at all, No codes either, I have 144k on it. All this talk about not buying a pre-01 is nonsense. Any car will have some sort of issue sooner or later
Don't mean to hijack the thread but I wonder if there is a way to permanently delete all TC/AH/ABS systems from C5's. I'm not talking about disabling and living with error codes on the dash. I mean completely; no codes or other issues. I don't have problems with mine but these cars are not getting any younger. Someone must have thought of this.
I've been wondering about this as well. I don't have any problems right now, but if I should have a non-repairable issue, could it be reprogrammed to not throw any error codes or light the lights.
I drove a C3 for years without TC/AH/ABS and survived just fine, I actually had lots of fun. Driving a C5 without them wouldn't bother me at all, I just wouldn't want to look at the lights or deal with codes.
Considering I grew up with muscle cars and never had TC or EBCM I have no use for it since I don't track.
It's a cool little novelty item but unnecessary as far as I'm concerned. I have lived 56 years driving in snow and rain and to be honest when I have had it engage in other cars it caused me to stop in a longer time frame than I could have stopped without it.
Those are my experiences and my opinions on Electronic braking. It's a problem waiting to happen.
Mine is out and other than that annoying light I don't miss it one bit.
You're not capable of disengaging the ABS, but you think you're capable of reacting and braking better than the ABS?
In a panic situation, I doubt I could outbrake ABS, I freely admit that. In my own case I would leave it on for the most part. I was thinking more of driving on a track (which I have not done in 30+ years so that is purely hypothetical) or those early mornings on a nice twisty road where you just want to drive freely without having the encumberance of abs/atc/ahc.
