2000 coupe.
I don't have all the details yet, but we are having torrential downpours and flooding in AZ, I was driving over to my carpool buddy's house and ended up going through a much deeper area than it looked. I was driving on the crown of the road and came to an intersection that was flooded and I couldn't see at the time how bad. So anyway the car dies, I bum the starter to see if it is locked up, it turns over, so I crank it a little and wont start, try it again and the starter just grinds.
If I have to replace the engine, is there a particular crate motor I have to get or are all the LS1s the same? different oil pan?
As I was pushing my car to a parking lot, I could see traces of oil floating on the water, so something may have breached the block.
Ouch, that sucks. AFAIK the LS1 is the same minus a few bolt ons (oil pan and alternator location). If the motor is done, look at a rebuild, maybe a good used. If I was going to go crate, I would be looking at something other than the LS1, like a 2 or 3. Of course if I had the coin, an LS7 would be awesome.

I was thinking the same thing, and would be looking for a crate LS3. A new one from GM Performance is about $6500 plus installation costs from whichever shop is chosen to do the removal/install.

LS7's throw valves out the side of the engine block more often than the sun shines in Phoenix....
Would the heads be damaged when it hydrolocked? If not, you could buy a short block and transfer the heads to the new block. Also, you should check with your insurance company. The damage might be covered since it was a road hazard that caused it.
I was at an autocross event when a guy in a C5 rolled (he was ok). They removed the plugs, spun the engine a few times, changed the oil, and put in new plugs - he was able to drive home...
My car has 120000 miles on it and it burns oil, so I figured I would get it all at once. If I can get a deal I want them to put in a new clutch and driveline couplers

That is what I am hoping, but I am not holding my breath.

You can try 20th St Auto parts (at VanBuren) for an engine as well - - tough sledding around the valley this morning - - especially the west side and I-10 . . . .we had 4 inches out here . . .west side had nearly 6 in 8 hours...heaviest rainfall in 75 years.
What a mess - - hope your car makes a full recovery !
I've seen two engines that have 'hydolocked'. Both blocks were damaged beyond the rebuild option. Both had broken rods that protruded through the block. I'd look for an LS3. You might find one in the for sale section.
It may not be hydrolocked. I did the same thing in my 86 c4 back in collage. First thing to do is pull the spark plugs and hand crank the engine. Hopefully your starter snaped before you broke anything major. Thats what saved me. I was able to replace the plugs, starter, and oil and everything worked fine for the rest of the time I owned the car, 7 or 8 years.

OK, it is seized up. I am in chandler az and it is covered by my insurance (with deductible) . I am seriously considering taking it to the Freeway Chevrolet , which farmers says is a prefered vendor, unless someone has a better recommendation.
We had a hydrolocked engine as a result of some flash flooding from heavy rain a few years ago. The car was a 5 year old Dodge Magnum V6 with right at 100,000 miles. Our insurance company covered the repair but put in a salvage engine with 46,000 miles. It came with a 1 year guarantee and was installed by the local Dodge dealer. Will be interesting to see if your ins co is going to spring for a new or used engine.

Honestly, it worked out fine. We ended up with an otherwise sound daily driver that we didn't really want to replace with an engine that had only 45,000 miles. Ran the car until very recently when it was rear ended while my wife was on her way to work. Odometer was at 176,000 when the car was totaled. We were looking forward to getting at least 200,000 miles out of it before replacing.
