Just wondering which do you guys think is the favorite. If you were buying a C5, hand the money burning your pocket, found the right car in the right color, right interior and right options for you. It all comes down to the car setting in front of you is a different Tranny than you wanted. Is that a deal killer?
Well guys I kinda screwed the pooch with my first Poll. Maybe if you do vote you can also say if Tranny choice or lack of Tranny choice is a deal killer. That is what I really want to know, would you not buy a certain car if you had to settle on the Tranny choice?
Depends on what I use the car for. I have an 03 vert that I drive 50KM every day to and from work in traffic. Automatic.
If it were only being driven occassionally for pleasure, manual all the way.
When I bought my C4 many years ago, I settled for an automatic despite being set on a manual. Regretted the decision I made until the day I bought my C5 (6 speed). Will not make that mistake again.
As always, YMMV.
This reminds me of when I bought my first Super Duty truck and said, nahhh... I don't need 4 wheel drive. I regretted that decision until my new truck which has 4X4
As far as this topic goes, I can't imagine having this car in an auto but there are lots of guys on here that have 'em and are happy.

My first two C5s were 6-speeds. My current one is an A4. Do I regret getting the automatic - not at all. I can get just as much driving pleasure from the car with either tranny. So no, the tranny isn't a deal breaker.
My first C5 was an A4, because there was a GM strike at the time and no one had manuals. Wished there was a 6 speed available, then I traded it in for a Z06, which I'm still driving now since 2003.
All depends on what you want. But I know when i was looking for a vette in 2006 on auto trader type in vette and pages of them. Change option to six speed and I was done to like three pages. Took some time but found one within a seven hour drive. Point being take your time and get which ever one u really want. I know i would have been kicking my self in the as if I settled for an auto.
When I ordered my 2000 I wanted a manual trans. so bad I paid (I think) over $800.00 to get it. Auto trans. was the standard trans. Times have changed but not my preference. I'd do it all over again to get a "stick".
After almost seven years with this car and getting to know it, I probably would enjoy driving it almost as much with an automatic.
But I still would not willingly buy one with an auto or "settle" for one if a manual were available.
When I first purchased though, an auto would have absolutely been a "deal breaker" for me.
I've preferred manual trannys in cars since I first began to drive and to have a "sports car" without one seemed just....wrong.
No offense to our A4 friends as I may eventually end up there....and love the advantages in towing with my auto trans GMC, but for my 'Vette, it's all about the manual trans.
I prefer the manual, but it isn't a deal breaker. If I had to drive back and forth to work everyday in stop & go traffic, the auto would be my choice. In fact, a six or seven speed auto with paddle shifters would be the best of both worlds. Anybody have an F1 for sale?

RS
Yes.
I prefer manual.
However....many years ago I bought an automatic 97 due to what an awesome deal it was. I made it my dragracer and absolutely loved it. Also, both my girls, who refuse to driver manuals...where did I go wrong?!?! ...also drove it and loved it. We had it for about 11 yrs.
Absolute deal breaker for me. It took a little longer to find my ideal 6-speed C5 but there was no way I would settle for an automatic. 50% of the fun with these cars is rowing your own gears IMHO.
