Check to see if you have accumulated dirt, grass clippings, leaves and other assorted trash in the front of the radiator. I clean mine when ever up on the lift or every 3 months which ever comes first. You will be surprised how much gets in there.

I mentioned the same issue to the guys working on my car, they are going to start with checking for debris. I do not run as hot but still hotter than I think it should.

If you just replaced thermostat. Check and make sure all the air is bled out of the cooling system. This can cause hi temps as described.

The debris in the radiator may not be visible...overtime it forms a thick gunk inside of the cooling vanes, best way to clear that is air or water sprayed through the radiator...

I agree but, the best way is to remove the radiator and clean it.

It's really hard to tell if the radiator is clean just by looking at it casually, mine looked clean but, when I tried blowing what little tiny bit of crap was in it out ( I made a special tool to reach between the coils to blow them clean) it wouldn't even blow thru it...it was completely plugged off, but only between the fins. I just took it out and took the water hose to it and cleaned it. NO more overheating.

Good luck getting the temps down. 250* is too high whether driving in town or on the highway.

I do remember a thread where someone fabbed a brass piece, angled, attached to a garden hose that would make cleaning the radiator much simpler.

Happy hunting!

got the blower at harbor freight, curved the tip, then clamped to a water hose. The water seemed to work better than just air. I covered the engine bay with a plastic drop cloth to keep it dry,,,,,,washed a lot of sand and gravel along with a lot of leaves and dried grass out.

Its best I think to wash from the back of the radiator to the front.

You can not see the radiator to inspect it./...from the front, the condenser ahead of it blocking your view and the fans block view from the rear... I've seen a small plastic grocery bag get sucked up between the condenser and the radiator.. I've also seen a plastic grocery bag get sucked into one of the fans itself, shutting it down..

You cant see the radiator.. it sits behind the AC condenser, if you look up under the car from the front, what you see is the condenser, not the radiator, the radiator sits an inch an a half directly behind it and not visible from the front or the back... what part of you cant see it, don't you get< I explained it in a previous post...in this thread do you think Im making this up>?

Irreverent?? you just told me you can see yours ( argumentative ).. and I told you, you can NOT .. here is the problem .. what you are looking at is NOT the radiator.. you wonder why I'm so irreverent??? it because you are trying to tell me something that just isn't true.. and I have to further explain.. I explained it in a nice way , told you the radiator is behind the condenser... I was nice and you did not believe and said you can see yours.. I took the time to explain why you could see it and you just blew it off in an assumption that your condenser was your radiator.. when you get comebacks like this , for 14 years, you should not wonder why I can get so pissy...

I didn't say you could...

"Irreverent??"

what does that even mean? I didn't say anything about you being irreverent.

"I took the time to explain why you could see it and you just blew it off in an assumption that your condenser was your radiator"

I know the difference between the radiator and condenser, why are you so condescending?

" you should not wonder why I can get so pissy..."

I wouldn't waste my time wondering why you're pissy, it's not my problem

there's a tool called a radiator genie that works perfect... it will fit behind the radiator and between the condenser to blow the trash out from the back (towards the front of the car)

That's not possible..!

at the very front 0f the car is the AC condenser, 1 1/2 inches "behind" it sits the radiator, and hooked directly to the radiator " behind it is the dual electric fan unit.

<-------- Front of car condenser| radiator | fans

You can not blow out the radiator from the back while mounted in the car because the fan unit covers the rear of the radiator completely.. in front of the radiator is the condenser which completely covers the radiator allowing no access to it... the only way to blow out the radiator from the back is to remove it.

air flows through the condenser to create heat transfer for the AC unit.. if the Condenser is block and air will not flow through it and reach the radiator behind it.. both the condenser and radiator have to be cleaned because they both draw in clay sand, leaves paper grass etc..

here is a photo of the radiator with the fans attached...

most of the debris that gets trapped in the radiator is at the top.. where the fan mount covers it. So there is no access from the rear to blow it out from the back, unless you remove the radiator itself.. removing the fans is not a good option.. because of the clearance too close to the block.. but the radiator comes straight out the top.. once you pull out the radiator.. the condenser which sits in front of it can easily be cleaned from the back side once the radiator is remove from the radiator mount.

here is a photo of the condenser which sits directly infront of the radiator and is the only thing visable from under the car where the air dam directs air and into the condenser.. the radiator is sandwiched between the condenser in the front and the fans in the rear.

Do you see the photo I put up?? the fan shroud covers 80% of the radiator.. from the rear !!!!

Unless you agree, you have to remove the radiator to clean it.. you can not even inspect the radiator while it in the car..

this is the condenser of a C5 Corvette its the one that gets all the leaves and the one most people think is the radiator.. BUT ITS NOT

Nice red coupe Vettefan84. With all the bickering I'm surprised no one mentioned air dams. From your picture the car looks slightly lowered. Where the debris can block airflow over the radiator, a missing or damaged air dam will not force air into radiator area at speed and have same effect as dirty condenser. Does the car run 250 at slow speeds or just on the highway. Clean the condenser, that is always good but also check your air dam. One good bump on a parking lot curb can bend it or even tear it off completely with ease.
