Before you just turn the ignition switch, fire it off and take off...
Take a second.. turn the ignition on, but let the computer "wake up"
let the gauges settle back to their normal positions, wait for all the bells and whistles to stop and the fuel pump to energize. Do a flight check..
everything working? If not, why? Let'er warm up a bit, then enjoy a great day or commute, she'll appreciate it.

This may sound silly, but I've always enjoyed this "pre-flight check"...I go through it every time!! I really like watching all the gauges go through their motion prior to firing up!!
I remember, when I was a kid, riding with a friend and his Mom on many different occasions. I don't recall the kind of car they had (this would have been late 70's), but it had a column shift auto and I can recall, very clearly, that she had that trans in either R or D before the starter had finished spinning down - every time.
I insert the key and let the seat/steering wheel adjust to the proper places then turn the key to the on position and let the computers all fire up while I put on my seat belt.
When the chiming stops I hit the starter.
Then I watch all the gages to make sure everything in running on point.
I love this friggen car.
Haha.
