It's a sad state for kids these days. No interest in the fun cars anymore. I work for GM, and volunteered to do a job shadow for local high school kids. On the main floor of the Ren Cen, the entire line-up is on display, so I took the kids there first to see the C7, Z/28, CTS-V (prior gen) cool stuff there. They didn't really care, but really wanted to see the Volt and Spark EV (I couldn't believe they knew it existed, it's only sold in CA or OR). So I showed them the Volt and they got all excited asking about electric range, etc. They also got really jazzed on the Buicks, which I guess is a good thing for Buick? The C7 was of the least interest to them.
Finally brought the Z out of hiding today. Took it to a local car wash because it's still really cold here in DC. I was in line behind a Prius complete with the standard Obama-Biden sticker mod, which is pretty much a standard option in DC. Nice looking family; husband, wife, 9 years old boy.
So I go inside and pay and the family is at the glass waiting for their car to come through and I'm standing their with them (because I'm still 9 years old inside myself). Here comes my beautiful black Z06. The boy gets really excited, "WOW DAD LOOK AT THAT CAR WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THAT?!?! IS IT ELECTRIC? It took a nano second for me to feel bad for the lil guy. Clearly growing up in a household where only electric cars are cool and America sucks etc. At any rate, of course his Dad had no clue what kind of car it was so there was silence until I decided to infuse some 'Merica into this young man's life for the first time...
"It's a corvette. It runs on gasoline. Lots of it."
Great story. I got a good chuckle although this story is very sadly true and indicative of where we are today.
Seems like some people will only believe your post if it is politically correct.
And some people will believe everything they read on the internet.
The truth is, the more electric cars, hybrids and fuel efficient cars on the road and the fewer gas guzzlers, the cheaper the gas is for the rest of us. Conservation and alternative energy are actually good.
gas mileage was not much of a concern to me when I first bought the car or even now in my mod decisions... I could see an electric car being practical for daily commuting if you do a whole lot of driving but on a performance standpoint I would never trade off for electric, even if they were faster... I like my vette to have smelly exhaust, make all kinds of noise, shake at idle from the cam, and run on gas, there is no replacement for that
I have a story related to the op's. Filling up at Costco, A gentleman in front of me with a prius, turns and says to me. Thats a beautiful car and is it new, i said no, at the time 15 years old. Next he asked if i thought G.M. would build an electric car like the Corvette. I had to say to my self I hope not. He was looking at a gm car that was a hybrid to buy and guess he was looking for some input.
Electric cars are not for me. Maybe in 20 years when they have them perfected and they have a thousand mile range, go 150 mph, fully charge in five minutes and cost 50 cents for the charge.
Many Supercars today are using a combo of electric and gas engines. Take the Ferrari LaFerrari for instance.
Drive the top of the line Tesla S and you might change your mind about electric cars.
BTW, I am not a "Green Hippie" either. Global Warming is nothing but a SCAM, proven over and over again. However, performance is performance.

Actually global climate change is real and in 20 years no one will be able to deny it. We are already seeing weather extremes and warming ocean temps. I am not a liberal, but an RR, a Rational Republican.
Facts are facts, and the facts are that the average temp on earth has been rising in recent years (aka global warming).
What is in dispute is the CAUSE of this rise in temps. Some say it is man-made, some say it is the normal cyclical nature of temps on the planet. Both sides have "science" to prove they are right.
I cannot say definitively one way or the other - but I can definitively say that "global warming" is being used as a tool to justify a lot of new government regulation.

Our freedoms suffer accordingly.
99% of credible scientists believe man is contributing to climate change. Dumping trillions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere will definitely affect it. Being an outdoorsman, I am all for laws that protect the air, water and land. Our freedoms will really suffer when the negative effects of global climate change start to change lives for the worst.
I'm done here.

It's not the kids, it's the parents. If you grew up hearing your parents brag about MPGs instead of 1/4 mile times you'd probably think the same way too.

Plus, has anyone noticed that Prius drivers seem to be some of the worst drivers on the road and are always cutting in and out on the highway driving the fastest.
I live in the "outer, outer" DC area - away from most of the typical Prius owners, who I am certain are the modern version of those that used to have beards, wear sandals and drive Volvo Wagons with "baby on Board" stickers.
Anyway the only Priuses I see out in this area are driven by people who seem to be studying their efficiency readouts - they are not studying the road or the traffic around them, that's for sure.
If you are enjoying driving your Corvette, Priuses are just rolling roadblocks.

You had me till you said CAR WASH. Who in their right mind takes a Corvette to a car wash? Not
Personally I use Chadwicks Triple Play on my Z but what does it matter what others do? Are you the Corvette Ayatollah who's going to tell us how we should take care of our car?
My neighbor bought a Prius and was telling me, and telling me, about the virtues of his new car. When he started comparing it to my Chevy about gas mileage, four seats, and so on, I finally had to tell him that "No kid in America has ever put a poster of a Prius on their bedroom wall." After riding with my neighbor, I realized that if other Prius drivers are like my neighbor they are distracted drivers, trying to figure out the infotainment system. No wonder they are going slow, acting like they don't know where they are going, and generally being confused about driving. They're letting go of the steering wheel to drive the infotainment center.
I'm really tired of waiting on Prius drivers to get out of the way so that the rest of the traffic can get on with their trips.
