Allstate has offered me 8912$. I'm waiting to hear back from the claims department and see what to do next. I want to keep my car as a "salvage" or whatever. So hopefully that will work out too
Still not as much as I want.
I can believe my own insurance company lowballed me like that. Is there anything I can do? With an attorney, etc?
Also they are having trouble getting in touch with the other driver. Luckily the police report explains everything. I don't know what we're waiting on

$8900 does not seem unreasonable considering the age, condition, mileage, and the fact that it's a salvage title.
There's a lot of people giving you good advice here. Good luck whatever you decide. I hope you are back in your car or another Corvette soon.
EDIT: What about the other dude's insurance company, like someone else asked? If it's clearly his fault, his insurance company should be paying for the repairs.

With a salvage title on a car with 101K on the clock, I thought $8900 was not bad and not worth fighting with them. See what the buy back is. If it's low enough, you might be able to re-own the car, repair it yourself and have some cash at the end.
Then dump your Progressive. Are you aware they are NOT accredited by the Better Business Bureau! Man, that's low.

Sorry to hear about your C5. Take the 8,900 and buy it back like The Dude said, you can fix it easy for that kind of change.

If the other driver couldn't see you coming because a truck was blocking his view he should not have pulled out. The officer should have cited him. Driving 101...be sure the road is clear before pulling out. Progressive says they are going to total it....without giving you a dollar amount? Sound like they are lubing you up for a screwing. Hold out for what you think is a fair price and be prepared to argue. Good Luck.....looks like a nice ride.

There was a front bumper for a C5 on a Facebook group earlier, perfect condition for 300$. I'm sure headlights are pretty cheap but i'm not 100% positive on that. Hope maybe that makes you feel a little better about buying it back. Just shop around for the parts, i'm sure you'll come out on top by a long shot.

A police officer at the scene of a collision cannot issue a citation for a traffic violation he/she did not witness. Traffic infractions, like misdemeanors, must have a police witness to testify in court as to the specific facts in the case, otherwise the citation request has to go through what is know as a "long form" citation request. To get a driver cited in a vehicle collision, via a "long form", requires that a copy of the collision report, along with an "affidavit of facts", in addition to a "citation issuance request", be submitted to the district attorney's office for review. This is usually done by a police traffic collision investigator who mainly work within the police station office. The district attorney's office makes the final call as to whether there is enough physical evidence present to warrant a citation to be issued to the violating driver. The citation is then issued to the violator by mail.

No chance in hell a salvage title '97 with over 100,000 miles is worth that much.

As stated check the buyback price if it is decent take the $8900 minus buyback and fix it.

There is a place in Colorado that is/was a sponsor here that had very reasonable pricing and a pretty good amount of on hand replacement body panels and the shipping was equally fairly priced. I will try to find the name.

I am a Police Officer in the state of Alabama(same state the OP lives in) and it is impossible for the Officer to issue a citation to the other driver regardless if he admitted fault or not. By law we are only allowed to issue the citation of No Proof of Insurance or DUI at the scene of wreck, unless of course the Officer actually witnessed the wreck.
OP it shouldn't matter what insurance you have, the other person's insurance should be liable for the damages, since the other driver was at fault. Unless you hit the other driver in the rear, then unfortunately you are at fault regardless.
Best of luck to you OP and one more thing WAR D*M* EAGLE!!!
