Default Headlight problem

I haven't been on here in a long time. Just got back from a two year vacation to S Korea and one of the first things I noticed in my 00 is that the right side headlight doesn't always want to pop up. I have read everything I can find about the headlight things and I am not sure if it is a gear or not. It makes no grinding or dragging noises. If the car sits for a few days and I turn on the headlight the left pops up the right doesn't. If I keep turning them on and off eventually the right pops right up at the same speed as the left and then they both stay in synch up and down for a few days then it sticks again. It almost seems like a switch problem more than anything. Is there a suggested troubleshooting start? I hope this is the only issue that I run into after 2 years in a garage.

Thanks

Try this first. There are some stop bumpers that deform over time and get indents in them. Try swapping them with the left of just remove them and rotate them and see if that helps. If it does I have a link at home where you can get replacements.

Could be a gear issue or a faulty HL control module for that side. Always a chance for a wiring or connector issue. Should not be the MF switch if the left side is OK.

Try the bumpers first and then we can work on diagnostics from there.

Most likely the nylon gears in the headlight housing mechanism.

Fairly simple to fix, replacement brass gears are available from various vendors.

Do a search here on the forum, there are many threads on the subject, or just follow some of these links........

Everyone of those links talk about a grinding noise when the motor moves. Like I said before it makes zero noise when the bucket doesn't go up. Zero noise when it is finally up and then goes down. I'll check the bump stops.

I have already done the brass gears and I have the same issues as the OP.
My could be either or both lights at any given time.
I also have searched without luck

I am having the same issue and posted this same question. Where are these located? I have tried to see where they are but I guess I will need to remove the headlight assembly?

I get mine working for a while by cranking the manual until it starts to raise then it will work for a while until it gets jammed again.

The motors are stopped on increased torque (measured as current) caused when the light hits the upper or lower stops. There are 4 little rubber bumpers the control where the light bucket stops. Sounds like you are missing one or two of the rubber numbers on the "down" side. I've recently purchased them through Ecklers at $3 or $4 each and replaced them while I was doing the brass gear fix. Very simple to do.

Part No. 57028 at Ecklers - $2.99 each. You will need 4 per headlight to replace all of them.

I did find another thread where they replaced these with rubber hose that was the correct ID to fit the flanges...think I will just order these however.
