Somehow I managed to break one of the 3 positioning posts that connect the side mirror to the motor on my passenger side mirror.
If you know what I am describing and know where I might find a replacement part I would be thankful.
Sorry, no pic of the broken part as I needed to get the mirror installed. But now it can only be moved up and down by the motor, but no in and out.
Thanks in advance,
Jim
Found a small pic online, the part is circled in red
I don't think that there are parts available to repair what is broken, you need to replace the whole mirror or find used parts as mentioned above. I had a similar problem and had to replace the passenger mirror at a cost of over $400.'s paint included. As you get older the garage door entrance moves and gets smaller
Still not sure what actually broke? Are you sure it actually broke or did it may just stay connected to the mirror when you removed it (this is common).
You might review these Muth Signal Mirror instructions to get a better idea of how this all works. Scroll down to page 5 and read it carefully. These are the instructions I used when replacing my stock mirrors with Signal Mirrors... http://shop.muthco.com/content/pdf/install/21001070.pdf
Also the post you have circled controls the up/down motion, not the side-to-side. You "may" not have anything "broken", just may need to pull to off the mirror and reinstall into the motor?

Thanks,
I have pulled off the mirror again to check and I used the same instructions. On the end of the positioning post there are three fingers whose tension is held by a metal ring. When I reinstalled I managed to break off one of the three fingers on the end of the positioning post and so now it will not hold on under power.

Now I get the picture. Did you ever try contacting Vettenuts?
I would imagine your only options (without rigging something up custom - which is an option) is to find a used C5 mirror from salvage and strip it down or find a "mirror expert" (there is probably one somewhere... but only one) to see if that part is used on some non-Corvette mirrors?
The good news is there are probably at least 10,000 spares rotting in a parts bin somewhere in Indonesia left over from the GM purchase order .

Choreo,
We seem to think alike ;^),
I contacted Marc @ Vettenuts and they do not have the part needed. I have been actively searching for such a broken mirror assembly and did find one, but from the pics all the "motor" parts were already missing. I have also been downloading parts diagrams of other GM mirrors (Camaro, Malibu, Firebird, etc) but so far I can't find any that seem to have the same components. I look at the electrical connectors on such mirrors as I assume they would at least neeed a similar number of connectors in order to provide similar functions. Again, no such luck so far. I see that C6 replacement mirrors are much less expensive but I don't have any evidence that they use the same meeded part.
Alas, I have not found a "mirror" expert so far either.
BUT, I welcome any and all advice on the subject and HOPE that someone has resolved this problem.
At one point they offered the C5 Motor-Packs separately because that is what my Dealership used to replace both my motors under warranty. So there may still be some of those hiding out there somewhere?
In retrospect, I seriously doubt there was anything wrong with either of my original mirror motors - I think they just mis-diagnosed the memory-retention problem?
