Mrmoose, where are you located? I wouldn't take it to a random garage for performance upgrades. You want to go with someone with experience on these cars.

Hi VetteFTW
thanks for the great advice. I would be happy with 80 to 100 HP. if i can get that with just heads and a cam, that would be fine. I am in Ontario, Niagara area. I was going to go to the dealer (largest vette dealer, old and new) in ontario

No, not the dealer...!
Ask here, maybe a new post, where people would recommend for mods in Niagara area.

The 80-100 horsepower gained from a heads/cam combo would be WITH supporting mods (intake, manifold, headers, exhaust.) These cars aren't cheap to make faster. If you wanted those kinds of gains with heads/cam, you'd have to go with some aggressive options, and that would most definitely sacrifice some driveability. Your car though, so your call. Personally, I would run an intake, full exhaust and tune before I got too deep into the engine.

100% agree.

Mrmoose, you should go with the supporting mods first, the headers/ls6 intake first. Then see how that goes. When more funds are available, go for the heads/cam. I wouldn't do heads and cam without the headers unless you were going to just put on stock LS6 stuff or a very mild cam.

DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER for this. They'll charge you a fortune. Try to find a reputable performance shop in your area, there has to be at least one.

gentlemen
your advice is extremely appreciated. What would headers/ls6 intake, exhaust and a tune run me? $ what HP gains would I see? and finally, point taken - NO dealer. I will look for a performance shop in Niagara area

That's a tricky question. Reputable brands will be nearly double the price, and from what I understand gains over cheaper parts may be minimal. But you do have a Corvette, so why not shoot for the best? I would put the price anywhere from $2000-$4000, depending on whose products you decide to go with. You should gain 40-50rwp and ft/lbs of torque with all the mentioned mods and a good tune. Keep in mind though, that your car will sound and drive much different, so it will feel like a helluva lot more!

True. I hadn't thought of labor. Have no fear though. When all is said and done, the smile on your face will be priceless!

You LOVE your vette... just beware before wading out into deep water...HP and TORQUE is the drug of choice for motor heads... they are crack when it comes to mashing the pedal and feeling the adrenaline hit you, as the exhaust screams at WOT, and the tires want to tear the asphalt off the road...your pushed back in the seat and your brain goes numb...like any addiction, that was your "high" for the day, your fix.... but, it's NEVER enough, you always want a little more... a little quicker.... a little faster... then BAM something breaks... you think about quitting but you can't YOUR an addict... so you build it back... BIGGER, BETTER, STRONGER and start beating on it again...
just beware

Haha
not quite, I am actually very easy on it. want a little extra power "just because" This car will never be raced, in fact I only drive it on weekends. it then gets covered and put in the garage. I don't even take it out in the rain. Its my toy - nothing more. But I love to drive it and every now and again I like to put my foot down.

You sound like you'd benefit most from a centrifugal Super-Charger. Then, when you ever sell the car, you can remove it for resale by itself.

Always remember to put those 'Original Parts' up in the attic for when you sell the car. You can put them back in, and sell the "MODS" separately. And get a large chunk of your investment back.

Wow...in just a couple of days we've gone from a quest for only 15-20 additional horsepower to a $5k budget and maybe supercharging...
