Man if you lived close to me I would have done it for free, it's such a small process other than just being a chore getting the car up for access, but really an easy task, it's crazy what some shops want to charge
Is the picture you provided, from your car? If so, it would appear there's enough room to get the filter out....
Call me crazy or forgetful, but IIRC, the fuel filter is located AHEAD of the rear axle....why would you have to remove the muffler, which is BEHIND the rear axle?

It still takes a half hour. Not to mention time to order part, write the service order up and drive you home and pick you up when it's done. It would be crazy if they did it for free.
No info in your post or profile about your car. If it is a 97 or 98 it uses a completely different and very inexpensive fuel filter.
My '98 started to make a slight "moaning" noise somewhere from the area of the fuel filler a few years back. Put in a new filter - got it from Advance Auto, next day service - and all was well. Only hassles were getting the rear end high enough to get under there, and the fact that the "official" tool to release the snap on connectors did not work worth a darn. Regular pliers did the job, no need to care about mangling the old filter. And as others have said, it was cheap.
I've put some miles on it and the only difference I've noticed is that it starts instantly now. Before it would crank for a second or two, longer when it was hot and sat for awhile.
Very easy process for someone with the correct tool to release the locks on the fuel line connections. Tool is pretty inexpensive and after you have used the tool once or twice it is almost impossible to "break" anything unless the person is a non mechanically inclined gorilla.
Lol. There seems to be a lot of those on the forum
I have both in my garage. Actually an ac delco, wix and a no name. I've cut them open before and you can't tell the difference. There's only a couple manufacturers for them and they supply many companies that simply stamp their names on them. I do stick to ac delco and wix usually, just in case

Seriously!
How many filter manufacturers in the world, do people think there are ......

I would bet money that if you would have posted that you needed someone to assist with the filter change that several forum members in your area would have stepped up to help.
That type of support seems to be the norm with the people on this forum.

I am not a freeloader that's looking for a free ride. I don't take advantage of other people and I can afford to pay to have it done professionally and not bother others. Not to mention, some backyard mechanics believe their skill levels are higher than they actually are. I do a lot of work on my own cars, including replacing the EBCM, but if I am not sure about something and could cause more problems than I solve, I will take it to a pro.

Most are probably made by the same company and then there are the Chinese knock offs. The reason prices are so low, the warehouses are probably stocked full of them, since most C5 owners don't replace them.
