I am not a freeloader that's looking for a free ride. I don't take advantage of other people and I can afford to pay to have it done professionally and not bother others. Not to mention, some backyard mechanics believe their skill levels are higher than they actually are. I do a lot of work on my own cars, including replacing the EBCM, but if I am not sure about something and could cause more problems than I solve, I will take it to a pro.
No one is saying your a free loader, and I hardly consider meeting up with another Vette owner to help them out with a project a chore by any stretch.
we all do work on our cars for different reasons some of us enjoy working on em and don't mind helping others, I think your looking at this all wrong

I am just not going to ask someone I don't know to work on my car for free.

JR-01, I can see your point of view, and the flip side to this is that if I were offer to help someone, it's because I enjoy helping and meeting other Corvette owners. Jus Say'n brother !! It still amazes me how simple topics on the forum can turn into a can of worms at times.
Actually some are made in Mexico, Canada and all over the world.
It seems lately that the few items I purchased recently have been from China, I'm not saying that all parts are outsourced from there. Have a good one !!

I just jacked my car up and thought I would look and see where the fuel filter was located. After finding it I am glad I did not try to replace it myself. Unless you have baby hands there is no way to get to it without dropping the exhaust and without a lift it would be a nightmare. It was definitely worth the money to me.

I never dreamed the auto tranny was that much larger than the 6 speed.....WOW!
I changed the fuel filter on a '98 at 60,000 and 90,000 miles when other work was being done where the exhaust was out of the way. Both times the car ran good but the filter turned out to be partially clogged, it needed to be replaced; fuel pressure is always around 60 psi. Both fuel pumps are original with 115,000 miles on them. The owners manual has no reference to change the fuel filter even at 100,000 miles, that's about 5000 gallons of gas. If the filter becomes restrictive at 30,000 miles and isn't changed wouldn't you expect that to reduce fuel pump life? Has anyone had to replace the fuel pump in less than 100,000 miles where the original filter was never changed as per the owners manual guidelines?

I completely understand what you're saying, and why I consider preventative maintenance to be of prime importance. The first time I changed the filter on my car, was when it was 3 years old. The second filter got changed about 7 years later, when it's seal started leaking, I'm assuming, due to ethanol content in the gas. That was 3 years ago, and at this point, the car has only 24,000 miles on it....
This posting made me decide the filter probably needed to be changed with 66,000 miles (I have owned the last 10,000). I got a Wix filter locally and paid $45 with tax and a $3.99 plastic tool to remove the front fitting. The Wix filter was stamped Made in USA. I pulled the #35 relay in the under hood fuse box and cranked the engine a few revolutions to relieve the fuel pressure. The whole operation took 15 minutes once I got the car raised. Since my wife and I use this car for several vacations a year I have piece of mind with another maintenance item done.

Resurrecting a month old thread as I'm curious what filters you guys are using
I was under the car yesterday doing the Anti-Venom mod and noticed the fuel filter. It got me thinking about replacing mine since I have never done it and have no idea if the PO did it. I'm seeing some varying prices at my parts store:
BWD-$148.99
AC Delco- $116.99
Champ-$84.99
WIX-$45.99
Microguard-$19.99
If it is a later year 2003 (built after about Oct 2002) it has the FFS fuel system and there is NO external fuel filter. Those are in the tank and not serviceable without replacing the pump.....
No it's an August build. Filter is on the driver side. Edited my previous post.
The filter on pre mid year 2003 C5's is on the inside face of the frame rail just forward of the drivers side rear wheel. Fuel pressure according to the shop manual is about 58Lbs, and you can buy a WIX filter for about $35 on Amazon or the AC Delco for about $55.
