$40 an hour Where are you at?
The going rate around here is about $90 an hour.

Unless he's working out of his garage, he's losing money at that rate. The cheapest around here is 100 bucks and that's a low end shop..

I know for a fact they did, at least a couple years back. Not sure about now, as contracts, etc can change.
AC Delco sources from a variety if manufacturers all over the world. WIX (U.S. company) is an actual manufacturer, Delco is not, however Delco maintains pretty good QC standards overall, regardless of who they contract with.
WIX has consistent high quality.

I got the tool to disconnect fuel lines at Autozone and the AC Delco filter was $69.99 from Rock Auto. I just replaced mine on my 2000 Coupe.

Corvette Tax is something you pretty much can't get away with on most things unless you do it yourself. I did have a pleasant surprise not to long ago though. I called a local Corvette shop for a price on a 4 wheel alignment, $300 if nothing needed replacement. I was like WTH??? I called a local very well known alignment shop and asked for a price also telling them the specific guy I wanted to do it. It was less than half of what the Corvette shop wanted. Now the guy I had do it has built a custom C5 and numerous race cars as well as driving race cars. I had both my Vettes aligned for less than the Corvette shop would do one car for. Not everything takes a Corvette expert and not every Corvette shop knows what they are doing. You have to do your research.
