I have a 99 Vette that is setting c1232 an c1255. My car was hooked to a battery charger when the house was hit by lightning this weekend. It fried my battery charger and now I am getting these two codes. Could a bad wheel sensor throw both codes or did the lightning fry my ecbm?
Wheel speed sensors themselves seldom go bad. More likely the C1232 is due to a wiring issue with the left front wheel speed sensor. Here is a link to a thread about C1226 but the solution is the same for your C1232:
The C1255 is NOT a good code to have. It MAY be due to a low or bad battery so that is where I would start with it. A good battery at full charge will read 12.7 to 12.9 volts or greater when voltage is measured across the battery posts using a digital multi meter with the neg battery cable disconnected. If the voltage is 12.5 volts or less the battery is low or bad. Pull it and have it tested. Most parts stores will load test and/or charge the battery free.
Don't bother with dash gauge readings as they show the state of health of the charging system and NOT the state of health of the battery. Many electronic systems in the C5 go through diagnostics and/or calibration BEFORE the engine starts. Low voltage will make many of these fail. Voltage from the alternator after the car is running is too late.
The battery is only 6 months old and it went dead because I left something plugged into the lighter for a couple of weeks. now that I bought a new charger it is fully charged and test good. The stealership says they need to do a bunch of diag at $99 an hour before they will give a recommendation to the insurance company. All of which I am liable for until the insurance company accepts the claim. The service manager said that it is probably loose wiring or a pin pulled out (not sure what he was talking about there). I don't trust them to be on my side and it if is something wiring related I can fix it myself. Where should I start?
