Default Help getting to 450rwhp

Looking to get my Z to around 450hp to the ground. I've done some reading but never anything that satisfied what I was hoping to find. Here is the formula I want to try:

The car has some of this already, but this is the end goal, will I be around my 450whp goal? I'm at sealevel

LG Super Pro's 1-7/8's - catted
Callaway CAI
Borla Stinger system
FAST 92 intake and TB
MSD Coils and 8.5mm wires
TSP 233/239 cam
LS7 rockers and lifters
PRC stage 2.5 P&P heads
Underdrive pulley
Tune

Looking for a good car with good 'area under the curve' not just peak power, hence the 92mm intake and TB

I have pretty much this exact setup with the exception of 1.75 headers, a killer bee 2 CAI, and a 102/102 intake/TB. I made 476/416 with my setup, but it is mostly from 3500-7000. You could probably run a wider LSA on that cam than I do (112) and get a better under the curve number than I do.

This is what I recently completed. I could have milled the heads more to like 59-60cc and gone with the fast 102mm intake. The LS7 clutch is also larger and heavier.

I wasn't too concerned with final dyno numbers. Extremely pleased with the setup and how the car runs. Very strong.

BTR - TFS as cast 220 heads-(64 cc)
BTR stage 3 cam
Fast 92mm intake-port matched
LS2 throttle body ported
Vararam CAI
LG 1-3/4 headers - hi flow cats
MGW shifter
LS7 clutch
Dewitt rad and spal fans
LS2 timing chain
LS6 ported oil pump
HPE diff brace
Hoosier tranny mount/brace
Stock bottom end/tranny/diff
With a nice street tune - 451 rwhp and 410 tq - dyno jet

Using 1 3/4" headers will provide more under the curve power than the 1 7/8" headers and only cost you a few top end horsepower.

I would think you'd already be there if those heads are any good.
Not sure about that cams power curve though.

You will likely reach your goal with selection of components, but if you're willing to stretch the budget about a grand, call Brian Tooley Racing. His setups are far superior to the Texas Speed parts.

Thanks for all the good replies guys, I know the headers are theoretically you much if I want power under the curve, but the car may get boosted later so I want them on just in case. Same with the intake, but I would replace the intake setup if I boost it. Little cheaper and better return on resale there.

That cam is supposed to have good drivability for cruising the highway, basically it's a medium between an MS3 and MS4 cam. MS4 is more than I want to do.

The 2.5 stage heads do flow much better than stock, but also they're a smaller port head so they should still have good velocity.

What kinda CR can I get away with on pump gas with these and still have it street safe?

Don't raise the compression, if you may later SC it. Otherwise 11:1 works great with a good tune. That'd be about 59cc chambers. Those cams you're considering are not optimal, IMO. I achieved great numbers with a 228-232/.600 112, and had a nice lope.

What makes them seem 'not optimal' ?

I'm working towards the same goal. I have a streetsweeper cam to slap in soon with a vengeance ported 102mm with NW 102mm.

Hopefully I hit 450...and then 500 with the mast 215 head

I re-read your post, and realize you're talking about the TS "Torquer2" cam, which is not as radical as the MS3 or 4. Should work pretty well.

I hit that number with TEA 2.5's Fast 102, 1 7/8, TI exhaust, ls2 tb, SD tune by Erik @ Backstreet Performance and EPS 226/234. Great little engine...going bigger now.

So I should for sure be able to hit that with a little bigger cam

No it's not that cam.

This one is: 233/239 and .595"/.603" is something close to that. With a 112LSA or a 111LSA

450rwhp is pretty easy, just not necessarily cheap. The combo is more important than just the cam itself and your big power cars have great heads/intake, not giant cams.

If it were me, Id put the best induction set up you can afford on it(Intake/heads). With the FAST 92 and a set of MMS 220's/AFR's/Trickflows/PRC 227's...You'll make 450+ pretty much guaranteed on any dyno with a 233/239 camshaft(Although Id get a hold of Pat G, Mamo, Ed Curtis, Martin@Tick etc etc) for a custom grind.

Optimize your compression, port the FAST 92 and with a good set of aftermarket castings it really wouldn't surprise me if you hit 480+rwhp with your supporting parts list.

Heres a couple of good reads for you

http://ls1tech.com/forums/generation...heads-cam.html

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...1rwhp-fti.html

Both good reads and helps cut through the "What I have is best" garbage your gonna get on a lot of your replies.

Basically you can try your own combo like listed above and see how it works out or go with a proven combo that some of us have mentioned with most of the ingredients listed. A custom cam to match your combo and rpm range will given you the most potential for best mph. You can make 500whp with a custom setup if you want but it will take covering all the bases and not overlooking the details.
We made well north of 500whp(dynojet) 6 years ago without the latest technology. available today.

I dont know that I honestly want a 500hp car because i want it to be drivable. I still want a car I can cruise at 1500-1600 rpm on the free way with and I'm guessing with a cam to do that (MS4 ?? ) It will want to surge I bet, is this right or wrong?

What is a recipe for 500whp?

As for budget, I'm not looking to buy a set of heads. Just port my 243's.... That's another reason I dont think 500hp will happen. I'd rather put that $ + tax return towards a setup for boost!

But I'm open. Dont get offended, I'm listening to all inputs and have changed what I'm going to do now because of what people have said.

less cam better heads. buy the best heads you can afford, personally i'd never go above 230@.50 on the street

you don't need a cam that size for your goal, just get a good cyl head. the katech cnc work is top notch, i'm sure some others are as well
