Even the much maligned C4 is worthy of respect, especially in the 90's. The LT1 and LT4 C4s were not dogs in their time and are still respectable. In addition the ZR1 set a speed record that stood for more than a decade and wasn't decisively bested in performance until the 2001 C5 Z06.
The reason the C4 made the list is, it's still one of the most desirable cars from the 90s. Some think it's cool to put down that generation of Corvettes (Including some of the Corvette forum's editorials). Wait a few years when they start to become hard to find in good condition, then we'll hear about the great generation of Corvettes, the C4.

C4 is one of the most desirable cars from the 90s? I would agree with the ZR1 but not the regular C4s.
The most desirable cars of the 90s would be the 993 Porsche, MKIV Supra, FD RX7, NSX, Sy/Ty GMCs, E39 M5, M Coupe, Viper, and so many more. I'm sorry, the C4 just isn't timeless compared to those.

Time will tell. But to give the whole picture, I often wonder how the Corvette would be perceived if it were as rare as the (mostly) no longer produced cars you mentioned. A member, just today, mentioned how his car was drooled over when he was stationed in Germany.
As I like to put it, little boys (and sometimes girls) still stop and point when I drive by. The desirability of a Corvette, really any generation, is inherent to the design of the car. Give the C4 twenty or thirty years to get truly rare and people will stop and point at one just as enthusiastically as a NSX, RX7, or Viper (only car guys will notice that a certain truck or SUV is special, let alone sport sedan number 461).

The ZR-1 and also the Grand Sports.
the rest you can buy (in pretty good condition) for $5000 or less.
There's a reason for this.
Same goes for the early 80's C-3s. Although a very few of those bring come higher bucks now. I owned a 80 L-82 (the high performance engine) and it had (I think) 220 HP. LOL
BTW, I still think the 80-82 was/is one of the better looking Vettes made,.
Am I the only one who actually read and comprehended what the article said?
Its clear he was talking about the C4, not the C5. The writer was clear to mention LATE 80s to 90s and referenced the Barbie Corvette. He was not talking about the C5 and I cant believe nobody caught that. Its the editor that screwed up with the C5 photo.
That's exactly what I was thinking (late 80s-90s was the C4) and was scrolling down to post. I had two C4's (as well as C2, C3, C5) and it was actually the only year I wouldn't care to own again.
If he were to discribe the C5 that way, it would have to be that he has never seen or driven one..

Last time I checked 1997, 1998 and 1999 were part of the 90s. The only lapse I have is the 70s...I think.
In the 80s the C4 was the car to own in Miami. Only the drug dealers had the German and Italian supercars and the rest owned Iroc-Zs. The few that were better off but not at drug dealer level got the C4. It was the belle of the ball at car shows. The C4 was very well loved in the 80s. Yes by the 90s it began to lose its appeal but for the 6 years of the 80s decade it was the bomb.

But IIRC the last of the C4's had close to the same power as the '97 C5, and many thought the older engine had a better torque spread. But, by then everyone knew there was a new model coming soon, so they tended to languish on the dealer lot. When I bought my C5 in early August of '97 (very early production '98, the 2nd C5 the dealer had received), the lot was awash in C4's - at very good prices, BTW.
People can say whatever they wish about C4's and express their views, but I owned a '91 six speed coupe, black/black and it was the one that verified that my life-long dream of owning a 'Vette was in fact worth the wait! (my '84, not so much)
It was definitely one of the fastest and quickest cars I had owned. I had built faster and quicker cars, but they all had their compromises here and there, but the 'Vette was a complete package from the factory and everything worked in unison with everything else. I would defy anyone to have put the pedal to that car and be able to say anything bad about it afterward!!! Besides that, it was beautiful, even sitting still!!
This author is an obvious example of yet another idiot whose positive reviews of other writings made him think he could write authoritatively about even $hit he doesn't have the first clue about.
The only thing I don't miss about my 89 is feeling the *** end coming lose in high speed cornering. Other than that it was just an all around fun car to cruise. I still dream of owning an admiral blue C4.
