Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (Chalky'sC5)
Was over his house today giving it another whack, twisting, pulling, rotating, there ain't no way to get it to fit properly without it right ON or only a bch away from the left sides of the bottom of the storage well under the car. When we first installed it, it knocked and vibrated up a storm. The VERY close proximity has him worried about fire too.
He was so pissed after I told him what BIG said, he's calling tomorrow and raising holy heck (he can't drive his car!!)
I am taking the pipe to a muffler shop for him tomorrow in the interim (pipe needs a oh-so slight bend to the left). Hell it can't be any worse than it is now.
Have you called back?
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (yelloz06)
I called Thursday and was given the bad news, another 7-10 days. They originally said up to 6 weeks. Now I know why. Easy wasy to keep putting customers off. I know they have the correct pipes in stock. They are selling systems currently that do not have our problems.
Believe it or not, my right side is giving me more problems than the left. I have the same clearance problem on the left side by the storage compartmentas your friend but no constant rattle. Unfortunately, the right side will have to come off and I need to bend the right side tip down. It has already rubbed the paint off my vet where the tips exit under the car.
For a cadillac component, I am disappointed in the quality and now the service. Hell, the first two times I called, they denied a problem. What kind of BS is that?
Just a little frustrating when a simple bolt-on is poorly manufactured.
So my friend called Borla, couldn't find him in their system (that he had called earlier) due to the fact that he had lost the "LJ (?) number that was given to him. They said they didn't want to submit it again for the fear of duplicates being sent out. They said they are in the "negative numbers" on that system at this time and they have to wait for a "lull" when they can do just the left pipe. "Hey Borla ever heard of getting one out of your stock and send it out to the customer?"
Looks like sh&tty customer service to me :smash:

That really blows. Maybe I'll try the BBB. That usually works. I know of two customers on this forum that had NEW systems overnighted to them when they had a problem. Me, I am told up to 6 weeks. I was nice at first, but I am losing patience when I get blown off with "Just a little longer" routine.
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (Chalky'sC5)
Dave,
My friend got a call this afternoon, the pipe shipped on the 6th, expected delivery the 13th. He got a tracking # etc. We'll see if this one is better.

Go ahead. Make me feel bad already!! Glad they are helping.
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (Chalky'sC5)
In 1991 I bought a Borla exhaust for a Toyota Landcruiser. I ordered the unit directly from Borla, at full retail price. I took it down to my Toyota dealer to install and got the indication from them that there were pieces missing. So I called Borla. Not only were some parts missing for the install, but I had to badger them to send the correct and critical pieces. Two weeks later they sent the wrong piece. Then I had to call them again to ship the correct piece. They thought I was trying to get more pieces than I really needed, so they demanded that I send back the wrongly sent piece. So I did. (they did not pay for the shipping. So on the third week after I got the finally correct piece. I brought it again back to the Toyota dealer(third time).
I had the Toyota dealer install it and they had to muscle it in a bit. Not long after the install, a pipe hanger broke off and the hanger had to be rewelded and the pipe refitted( fourth or fifth visit by this time). They did not cover the cost at all.
I think that if you bring it to a local vendor, they will try to make it fit, even if it doesn't really, because they want you to be a satisfied customer, and I think Borla knows that and takes advantage of that. If an OEM piece fit your C-5 like Borla's, that would be cause to reject the piece.
So the bottom line is that I don't think they have solved the problem of statistically increasing the instances of better fit. To give them the benefit of the doubt, they seem to ship a replacement, if you can convince them something is wrong, but that doesn't cover the cost for the removal of the old unit and the replacement of the new unit, not to mention the hassles that I described above.
More to the point, I have heard of instances on the C-5 of 50% of batches not fitting correctly. If the stock Z06 titanium exhaust fitted like a Borla, we'd have grounds to be less than satisfied.
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (ruking1)
I guess nothing changes. My contact @ Borla for warranty work no longer returns emails. They sent me a new left pipe which was identical to the first pipe.
So far, I have hammered the left pipe to improve clreaarance, shimmed both hangers along with numerous attempts to improve clearance. The care was also on a lift at an auto center trying to improve the fit.
Personally, no more Borla for me. I have an extra pipe. I will find a good muffler shop and have the adjustments made. Many vendors have nothing good to say about Borla's service as well.
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (Chalky'sC5)
My friend was the other guy that had the same problem as BigLawMan and Chalky. He got his replacement pipe from Borla and it was DEFINATELY different than the first. There is now space to slide your hand between the pipe and the underside of the storage well. Also the tips are now protruding dead nuts equal out the back now.
I took the plunge and bought the Stingers too (even with my friends problems, yeah I bought a Betamax too), and did the install late last night.
NO problems!!!!! Gotta go and buy a Lotto ticket guys! Played Russian roulette and, NO BULLIT. Once I heard his Stingers both outside (while he rowed it through the gears and inside, I freakin wet my pants. I think I will do an x-pipe though to take just a little bit of the music volume down :yesnod: and it will be purrrrrrrrrrrrfecto ;)
Chalky, hope you get yours squared away even though you had to go through all the trouble and take it to a shop and spend some of YOUR cashola.
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (Chalky'sC5)
Dave,
Hang in there bro. I know your pain. I fortunately was the first one to bitch at Borla and got the royal treatment. All I can say is I LOVE this system and will never put another on my car. It was well worth the trouble and sounds/looks better than any system I have seen/heard!!!!!
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (BIG LAW MAN)
BIG LAW MAN:
I gave up on Borla. They haven't returned my emails. Some warranty. I didn't realize I had driven over a million miles so far with this new exhaust system. I am assuming my warranty expired already. When I found out what happened to your contact, I should have known.
I'll find a shop in the area to have the final tweaks made and I'll let the BBB deal with Borla.
Re: Are the Borla Stinger issues resolved? (Chalky'sC5)
OK, here is my retraction.
Borla called and emailed me today. They have agreed to let me take my system to a muffler shop and have the necessary adjustments made. They would reimburse me for reasonable repairs.
I don't have a problem with this and I will treat this matter as closed.
