And I thought I was the only one that did those types of things. Good to know I'm not.
When I bought my C5 I stopped at a McDonalds for a meal before my ride home and drove the front bumper right into a concrete parking stop. I think I had driven it 6 miles. :-)
Well you see I never lend my car and I never leave it in gear just the hand brake. And I go to turn it on & it just lunged forward.
Turns out my father used it the night before, he tends to leave it in gear when parked.
Nothing to severe happened but the whole bumper under is pressed upwards.
Do you guys think I should file a claim? Will my insurance go up for this type of thing?

Normally I would say not to file a claim for this sort of thing, but here's my story.
A few weeks ago I had my car into a shop for fluid changes and there was a mishap getting it on the lift. Long story short, my driver's side rocker panel was damaged just below the brake cooling duct. Didn't look that bad, but I filed a claim on the shop's insurance. Turns out the estimate is 3400.00 because the rocker and the rear quarter panel must be replaced.
So if that had been on me, I wouldn't pull that kind of scratch out of my wallet, I would have let my insurance cover it. Bottom line is get an estimate and see what the damage is. It might be worthwhile to file a claim. Or not........
Sorry OP. But just curious why you leave your car in neutral when parked? Leaving it in gear is an extra precaution in case the parking brake is not strong enough/releases etc. Especially on any type of incline.
The good news is it won't be that expensive to fix.
The worst case is the lower radiator mount is bent beyond repair. That's about $400, other than that the air dam is not too expensive and pretty easy to replace. It is actually hinged for such events.
BTW, the C-7 does not have these hinges, and running up on a curb will likely cost you an inner fender piece as well.

Yes, leaving it in gear when parked is a good habit to get into, especially because most people do it and you will also avoid incidents like this.
Surprised it cranked without the clutch pressed in, never really gave it much thought just figured it had to have a safety interlock (government thing) Always park in gear and mash the clutch in out of habit myself. Hope it's not much damage to it.

plus a foot on brake and clutch, leave E brake on, and put in neutral, then start it. Also, when in the garage, I put it in 5th or reverse, just in case I forget, or something fails.
Looks like a shark latching on to the side of a boat or something.

Yeah I do put it in gear when not in the garage. In the garage I always just leave it in neutral. Lesson learned though, always check to see if it's neutral.
Took it out in the sunlight to get a better look. No damage to the radiator or anything. You can barely even notice unless you look under the from fascia. I will get an estimate tomorrow, hopefully it's nothing major.

I got in the car and pressed the clutch in but the e brake was not engaged and as I let off the clutch the car just lunged forward on to the stairs. It doesn't crank without the clutch in.

Living through 62 Wisconsin winters, found out the hard way not to use parking brake. They freeze, locking the rear wheels. I have used the parking brake maybe 3 times since 1969 and by using common sense when parking, have never had a problem.
