I recently went to 18 19 wheels. Wanted to get rid of run flats and Chinese replica wheels. Bought a package with tires and sensors mounted and balanced. I talked to the guy about all the questions you have and couldn't be happier. Bolted them on and it rides and corners better and has more traction. Went with Falken tires.
If you want the C6 spiders, House of Wheels has "replicas" at a reasonable price in correct C5 offsets.
I got a set of 18/19 Grand Sport wheels from them and got Michelin Pilot SS tires in stock C6 coupe size. I like 'em and the car rides and drives great. I also lowered my car with aftermarket bolts on the front and using the stock ones on the back.
Opinions and experience vary greatly on this forum regarding using factory C6 wheels, some no problem, others not so lucky. I've seen C6 coupe wheels that are too far in on a C5 on the back. The front offset of the C5 vs. the C6 is nearly the same but the back is ~13mm difference (I think). Maybe the factory 12" wide wheels (Z06 etc..) fit different. IMHO, they stick out past the fender too much. I just decided not to hassle with it and go with ones with correct C5 offset.
