The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Pull the air freshener and check the carpet for dampness and musty smell. On the passenger side floor, there is a compartment with the BCM in it. Open that compartment and investigate for moisture. Obviously moisture and computers don't mix.
The problem could be a simple fix like the udders under the hood need to be cleaned out. Also pull the codes to see if there are any major ones. The procedure can be found on this site. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...c%2Fdtcdic.php
If you really like the car, approach the deal with a level head and find the cause of the moisture. Don't let your emotions overtake common sense. There are other Corvettes out there if this one doesn't pan out. Good luck!

If you don't like anything about the colors in or out...
...keep looking.

YOU NEED TO FIND IT and figure out HOW/WHY its getting inside.
Could be something as SIMPLE as someone had wet feet and the carpets got wet OR someone left the window down during a rain storm OR as complex as BODY DAMAGE from an ACCIDENT that cant be or was improperly repaired.
FIRST THINGS FIRST.
Move BOTH seats all the way UP and FORWARD. The carpet on the rear wall of the foot well covers the flap on the floor carpet in both foot wells.. Pull UP the rear wall carpet and find the foot well carpet flap. Put your hand under the carpet and under the carpet padding (JUTE) and see if there is any water OR moisture. If either side is WET,, you have a LEAK.
There are numerous areas where the water can enter the cabin. Some are easy to FIX and some are a royal Pain In the **** to fix.
Sometimes, the only way to figure out where the water is leaking is to REMOVE the seat and the foot well carpet and HOSE down the car.
There can even be water/leaks in the REAR compartment that collects in the storage wells. Best check that area also.
Some people have stated to ME,,,,,, " How can I have water in my vette. I NEVER DRIVE IT IN THE RAIN!"

1, DO YOU WASH YOUR CAR????
2. Do you run your AC??? (If you run the AC, condensate will build up in the HVAC Air Box.) There is a dedicated drain to allow it to drain out on the ground. IF,, that drian plugs up,,, IT WILL LEAK INTO THE PASSENGERS FOOT WELL and Onto the Body Control Module! BAD DAY FOR THE BCM!

I could go ON AND ON about leakage in the C5. Been there done that. If you own a ZO6, there another entire CHAPTER on leaks for that body style!!!

NOTE and WARNING. A unmolested dry, well cared for C5 DOESNT NEED an air freshener! If they feel the need to COVER UP the interior smell,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT!!
Usually its from leaving wet carpets inside the car to dry out on their own and the MILDUE starts to form!

Heater core maybe? There would be a definite smell and dampness in passenger foot well. But it could also be from carpet cleaning preparing the car for sale? And that's a terrific price from my perspective if everything else checks out.
Good luck.
