I do think about the safety end of it, I'm fairly sure they are not going to sell a wheel that would cause them a lawsuit !!!!! not to mention it seems to me I read about a 5 spoke GM wheel that on more than one occasion has cracked ??? If money was no object I would most definitely buy a more expensive wheel (cause they cost more doesn't mean they are better) Then there is the notorious Corvette Tax !!!!!!!!

Whats funny is i wonder how many buy big money wheels then put the cheapest tires they could buy. We have mounted Michelin on our aftermarket wheels, that by the way are D.O.T. approved.
tell me this with all the members here have you ever seen a aftermarket wheel fail ???? the header reference was just a comparison on cost !!

I think you missed my point, I do drive my car hard and would not put cheap wheels or tires on it, I would save until I could afford good quality forged wheels, but I may skimp on the headers, as they wont kill me If something goes wrong, and I would not assume you have less money than me, it sounds like you are very sensible with your money.
I have no idea if any members have had failures of budget wheels? Most corvettes I see in Florida are just putting around town, no worries about failures doing that

I have half a brain and the few times I have gone 120 plus it's one of the first things I think about, (not that I am really that worried about a rim failure) deer running in front of me, a blowout, if I am going to be a little nuts, I do it when I see no cars.I am hardly sensible I put almost every cent into my vette. I also did not want the stock size tires in the rear,and if I wanted to go to larger brakes I needed the 18'and 19's. At some point I want 325's in the rear and better rims.
I have waited a long time to get another vette,only had it 2 years, as I have said the rims and tires I have put on have a major improvement in the car, looks and drive ability !!!! I do not take offense or hope I don't dish it out, I have learned a ton from guys like you on this forum.

I don't get offended very easy on here I once was called an idiot or something close for just defending a guy who wanted to use a car wash I read many posts before I joined, it was not until I needed help that I joined so I could ask all the people here questions, including you and I have learned not to truly insult people even if they insult me...."well I may call somebody out on bs every once in a while" got to keep it exciting ...and If I don't get the answer I need I just ask a different way. I will battle for what I believe, but I try real hard not to insult or offend people,I don't think I have ever called someone a name or other on this forum,I am a very opinionated person and will fight until someone proves me wrong, and I will say I am wrong and thank them !!!! I've commented on alot of threads regarding cheap knockoff wheels (aka Chinese repros). I will keep this short.
Your car, your choice. For me, wheels would be the absolute last component I would cheap-out on. Guys, think about it for a minute. The only connection your car has to the road surface is the wheels (and tires). Wheels are the single most critical component on your car. If you break a wheel while driving, you probably will crash..........period. Could you imagine if it happens while a loved-one is in the car with you?
All that just to save a couple of bucks on wheels? No thanks!

there is a new post on which CCW wheel, the posted wheels are 1000+ each so it's not a few dollars more like 3 grand difference ?????? Frank posted he changed his wheels shortly after he bought it ???? 18 years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly, yes there have been reports of cracks developing on some batches of GM thinspokes, but cracking and catastrophic failures are two different things. The failure modes are completely different between high quality wheels and cheap ones. A hairline crack in a high quality wheel would be warning sign that it's time to replace it soon. A hairline crack in a cheap wheel would probably result in complete breakage and separation of center section (catastrophic failure). No warning. That is where the differences become evident. Catastrophic failures are what kill people.

we are all of opinion !!!! I think about safety maybe more than the average Joe, I have the best tires you can buy,I have updated my tire monitoring system, I DO NOT TEXT and drive,will only talk on the phone with hands free,my cars always have excellent brakes,wipers,general condition of all mechanical,and if a accident waiting to happen I will not panic !!!!

my brother has had aftermarket repo wheels on his 02 Z28 800rwhp camaro for almost 10 years and they still look like they day he bought them...but he takes car of them
I just removed the chrome repro wheels off my Coupe. They were new on the car when I bought it almost 12 years ago. They are decent condition cosmetically, no issues structurally. Chrome finish is not bad, only pitting is on the barrels because I really were not too particular about cleaning them. They are still very usable.
