Default The Horror

Left my 99 parked safely in front of my place this morning and loaded up the jeep and a a few dirt bikes and took the kid out to of town for spring break..
Get a call from my roommate asking if I'm sitting down lol

Sends me these pics .. Got the guys insurance info and a pic of his license ..
Got a call from the guy seems nice enough and is getting in touch with his insurance but this sucks... Especially since I'm not there ...
I don't know how long you can be backing into a car before you freakin notice

Ouch! He scraped all three side panels! Seriously, didn't he realize he hit something?! Good news (I guess) is that it should hopefully be easier to blend the paint, however you may want to push for a full repaint to make sure one side is not slightly different than the other side.

Not even half a year into owning my C5, I had a lady in a truck run my fender and door over. I was reverse-parked into a space, and she just decided it was ok to cut her F-150 as sharp as possible and just run my car over. The response I got out of her was "Well I thought I *heard* something but just continued to keep going" Uhhhh... Pretty sure if you "think" you hear something you should probably stop.

Whatever you do, have the body shop really inspect the door shell. My damage was incredibly light, but the push in from the truck meant a completely new door shell had to be sourced. The door is an SMC shell with an outer body panel skin bonded to the shell. The problem? They're not made new anymore by GM. They were discontinued some time around 2013/14, and the shop I utilized (a dealer with a 17 year experience Corvette body tech) had to find a used door, that had no mileage cracks itself, and perform a complete color change inside and out. Needless to say the shop received three different used doors before locating one that was suitable.

I would not worry too much about paint work. Modern paint work is spectacular with the ability to computer match, but you have to find someone that really knows what they're doing. My Nassau Blue was matched up and blended perfectly and you cannot tell the difference in any angle, which is good because Nassau Blue is a color you cannot mess up on since it has tendency to "change" color in different lighting. It helped my car is mostly stored in a garage when not in use.

He's going to take a large hit on insurance. Don't be surprised to see quotes in the neighborhood of $6,000+ when it's all said and done, especially if a door has to be sourced.

I too see this seem to happen quite a bit with Corvettes and it boggles me how often they seem to get into fender benders or other sort accidents while stationary. It's really not that hard to not hit something. It's called knowing the outer limits of your vehicle and paying attention. Not hard concepts.

The only good thing to consider. If you were ever thinking about a new paint job now is the time since at least will be paid for.
Something to consider

To me, the most stunning part of this whole thing is the perp actually stopped and took responsibility. So rare these days. Guessing he saw someone who saw him do it and figured better fess up.

Regardless, sorry about your Vette OP . I hope you can get it fixed up better than new with a minimum of hassle.

Monday was a bad day. My wife's SUV was hit in rear while parked taking the grandchildren for ice cream and left without taking responsibility. My son's Infinity was parked at work and was struck by someone that also left. He had the car a week!

Sorry about the accident. By the looks of his panel this isn't the first time he's hit something. That is bondo in that area and has been repaired before. Looks like glasses might help him in the future. Good luck with everything though.

Well on a somewhat bright side the clear coat was coming off the lower part of the bumper on the opposite side so I was considering getting the bumper repainted...
So hopefully that crap is gonna get taken care of lol

Stuff happens...don't rain on the guy I am sure he feels bad enough already. Corvettes are very low and people MUST do a visual before they backup with their vehicles (he has to be happy it was not a kid on a tricycle!!) Hope you get if repaired to your complete satisfaction and be happy he owed up.
