I prefer a deep, throaty exhaust note with a lot of bass. Unfortunately, those systems can also create some drone. A catted X-pipe greatly reduces the effect, if one is so inclined to run cats. Regardless, I will take some drone if it means not running the raspy, cackly exhaust system alternatives available. They sound just awful when lifting off the throttle. They remind me of old Thrush glasspacks everyone used in the 1970s. The Magnaflow systems sound nice and rumbly at idle and under acceleration, but they sound "fluttery" when lifting off the throttle, like a rusty truck muffler with a hole in it. Just my opinion, of course.
For myself and many others, the 5.0L Mustangs in the 1990s running Flowmasters and a healthy cam sounded incredible. The only modern exhaust systems I know of that give a similar sound are the Borla S-Type, the Bassani, and the LG Big 3.
Not sure if there are still unresolved issues here but if there are, please contact me at davidb@borla.com or the direct line to my office at 805.246.6067 and I will make sure you're satisfied. Thanks.

I have the Magnaflow system on my 99 C5. I agree with your comments and have been wondering if adding an X pipe would eliminate the fluttering. I have read other comments saying the stock H pipe is the cause of the fluttering. I'm still looking for someone that has Magnaflow with an X pipe to get their feedback.
