Default 6 speed shifter ??

First I don't want to change it out to a closer ratio shifter. I want to either cut the height down or go the C6 route. I was thinking of putting a C6 **** on the stock C5 but not sure how it looks. Does it stand too tall? I like the C6 shifter because it's canted back and looks shorter. Therefore the **** looks right. I'm looking for feedback on people who have gone both directions. Cut stock with either stock or C6 **** or C6 shifter change out?? Pics are always good. Thanks!!

A OEM C6 **** will not fit on a C5 OEM shifter. The C5 shift rod has a two piece rod. Half way up the rod goes into a rubber vibration isolator. You would have to take the isolator off and then thread the remaining rod.

The OEM STOCK SHIFTER is a POS (IMHO) and needs a good up-grade.

I have a C6 and the OEM C6 shifter (The top and or the bottom box will drop right in your C5. I do like the ergonomics and improve shift feel of the C6 shifter. I have not changed the shifter in my 06 Coupe or 11 Grand Sport Vert.

HOWEVER,, I installed a much better shifter into my 02 ZO6. I installed a KIRBAN Shifter.

MUCH BETTER!

I purchased a C6 **** threaded at 9/16" before I bought my MGW. It was awful. It probably only extended the length of the OEM shifter by 1/2"-3/4", but it felt like much more, and looked wonky. If you want to go the C6 **** route, trim your stock shifter at the very least. Or just do the right thing and get rid of the OEM setup altogether!

I def like the looks of the C6 better. I drove a C5 Z with a B&M ripper in it. To me, it was too hard to find gears. Too close. I don't mind the way the stock shifts, long throws, but ok.

I was afraid of it being too high. From what I could dig up on a modified C6 ****, it looked too high, but hard to tell.

After researching a number of different alternatives I went the following from TPS:

TPS Motorsports' new short shifter is ready for your C5 or C6 Corvette! We take the great shifter from one of the greatest sports cars in the world, the 2010 C6 Z06 Corvette, and modify it to provide a shorter throw than your stock shifter. Unlike aftermarket shifters, the TPS 427 Shifter retains the nice smooth shifting action of the Z06 Shifter while reducing the length of the shift throws about 20%. The TPS 427 Shifter makes shifting more precise and generally makes driving your Corvette that much more enjoyable. To top off the great shifter we add a Hurst Shift **** of your of colors. (this is their ad language)

I used a C6 shift **** and size and length of throw work for me. Feels, to me anyway much smoother and precise than the old C5 OEM unit. But maybe its just me.

Love my Kirban shifter, Dennis lives close and I went to his shop to pick it up, even threw in a white shifter ball.

Looks I might do a C6 shifter. Now my question is, will it just drop in with no adjusting? Just drop in the upper and lower all together and go? Some posts I've read with aftermarket ones you have to adjust stop points or something like that. Also, is a C6 Z06 shifter the same as a base C6 shifter?

I cut 7/8" from the top and then another 7/8" from the bottom. The shifting was shortened significantly. I also make my own ***** so the c6 was not a factor.

I also cut down my factory shifter by IIRC 1 1/4", and bought a **** from TwistedShifterz with deep threads so the **** sits low.

The stock shifter as you know is horrible so a long time ago I put in a Hurst. It is adjustable but even with the lightest settings it was still way too stiff. It felt precise but tookalot of effort to shift it and it never loosened up. Then it started vibrating at certain speeds. Hurst's answer was that the way they are and you can't fix it. Eventually I went to a C6 Z06 shifter. It is a direct bolt-in. I threaded it for a C5 ****. I threaded it allthe way down to where it gets fatter. I had a custom made **** that I wanted to use from my C5 shifter. This shifter is perfect, precise without extra effort and the position is great. Reasonable cost too. You can get a great price from TPS Mak. Also, for people who want a great selection of custom ***** go to www.speedawg.com.

I really think that's the way I'm leaning. Is there a difference from a base C6 to a C6 Z06 shifter? Never thought about threading it. Great idea!

Exactly what I do with mine. I bottom the threads to about 1/8" from the top. Some i flare at the bottom so they overlap the boot.
