Default Center console problem

Does anyone else have a problem with the center console lid not opening up very much? Mine will only open about 1/3 of the way. I don't want to force it and break somthing.

Yes, had same problem fixed by applying WD-40 to its hinge pivot points.
It's designed to articulate to avoid hitting the emergency brake.

If there is an aftermarket cover on it could be a bit tighter as well.

If you lift it up then pull it to you, it will then open all the way.

Thanks guys. I saw it was a double hinge but couldn't see it very well. Tried picking up and away from me.

Funny, on my Z, it would move towards me and then finish the movement. This car requires much more force.

I have a padded cover for the lid and it does not restrict the opening at all.

IT Was????
I happen to know the guy who designed that hinge, very intimately and so does my wife.. It was designed in 1996 to avoid a 2000 DOT compliance to keep the console lid from completely opening in a crash. Dave wanted to be.... to use his words.. " Pro active in this design "

E.T. strikes again! Thanks for the trivia. And I have always wondered why my console would not open but was "afraid" to ask lol. Got to go try this asap. Must be a million other things I don't know about this car...

Its funny how urban legend starts. I have so many insider C.T. I.'s about the development of this car. I've shared a lot of them here, and always get ( IN PM ) that I should write a book... I could write a book about all the stuff that didn't happen to the C5... I can remember that discussion in an FMEA meeting about safety and compliance, like it was yesterday. How the latch and pawl design was incorporated into the lock system, etc and that was 20 years ago.

C.T.I. = Choice Tidbit of Information

You are not the first to suggest that.. unfortunately I do not have enough gas in the tank to accomplish such a feat... not only that, I still get a pay check from GM every month, and I would not want that to stop.

I try to share some stuff without getting into trouble. I've thrown out a few C.T.I.'s over my 15 years here.

I think there should be a run to E.T.s place. Maybe 25 of us in C5's show up at his place to honor the car and his great efforts on the program and the forum. And we can't show up empty handed. We need food and refreshments so I'll get a large bag of chips, a case of Scotch and a small 7-up.. Then we will light a bonfire and talk C5's till the sun comes up.... I bet E.T. would like that (well, maybe not) lol
