The underrated USPS is one of the institutions that make us a great country. I'm sure they screw up sometimes but I have no complaints. They consistently provide on time delivery to us with a smile, provide passport service, free shipping boxes and envelopes. All this despite minimal support from Congress.
Count me as a big supporter of the US Post Office
I'm with you. I get my mail everyday without a problem. I think we have become spoiled. We expect everything to always be perfect.
UPS and Fedex are great, I had issues with a Summit order and called them, they were fantastic, told me from now on they would have a note with my info to use only Fedex Amazon no such luck they use USPS for weekend delivery
Ha my next door neighbor works for the Post Office. He gets all the Amazon runs on weekends for overtime pay.
You know who is paying the freight in the long run. We foolish amazon patrons who must have our purchase ASAP.

When I ordered for Amazon it could very well be I might be in the same position as the OP, working on my car or someone elses and may need the part asap. I also do not live very close to many stores !!
And here's the reason:
USPS was profitable by $313 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2015, and operational revenue was up $233 million over the same period last year, the agency announced Friday. The growth was due in part to the temporary emergency rate increase on postal products that took effect last year, but also aided by a 14.4 percent increase in package volume.
The Postal Service still suffered a net loss of $1.5 billion in the quarter -- down from $1.9 billion in the same period last year -- due to its obligatory payments to prefund retirees’ health benefits and workers’ compensation costs. Postal officials were eager to note the agency maintains $90 billion in unfunded liabilities, and a simple fix to the prefunding requirement would not solve all of its issues.
2 billion a year could be wiped off the countries deficit with one swoop. Get rid of the USPS. I'm tired of funding a losing proposition via Tax monies. I don't hear Fed Ex, UPS or DHL crying poor.

The Post Office is a government agency created under the constitution. Like the military, it was not created to make a profit, but to provide a service. FEDEX UPS and DHL take the cream.......packages. If they had to deliver regular mail to every address in the US 6 days a week, they would not make a profit either. The US Postal Service helped create this nation and it is still needed. It does need to be updated, though.

I guess you didn't read the part about the $300 million profit. The loss is the pension plan and benefits already committed. They would have to be paid anyway, and we would also lose the profit to offset some of it. The problem started when all the benefits were offered above and beyond salary.
As an additional problem, for Fedex or anyone to deliver the bulk mail every day, the prices would have to go up to pay for the additional trucks, workers, benefits, all the things that the post office supplies now. We're in in too deep. I for one, am very happy with the service I get from the post office at the price I pay for it. Fedex won't deliver a letter cross-country for 45 cents, or whatever it's up to now.

When the US owes $19 trillion and counting , it's probably a good idea to look first elsewhere to start making cuts.
Let's just hope that the next president does not double the deficit like the current one has done or we are done.

Let's be realistic and not fool ourselves. No matter who is elected, the deficit will increase daily. The money train is out of control and there's no stopping it.
Cuts should be made "Yes", The problem as always is where? It's the citizens & non who control/sway congress how the taxes will be spent. Everyone wants everything but don't want to pay for it. That's one reason why have a $19B deficit.
Under the current administration there are 1.7 million government workers which increased by 10% from the previous administration. A method/scam used for ions by administrations to lower the unemployment stats.

Bush doubled the debt then Obama doubled that debt. They all get us deeper in debt.
Now the deficit is a different story. Obama went from a trillion dollar deficit to half a trillion dollar deficit.
The deficit and debt are two different things.

Gary Johnson for President.
Just for the record, 2007, Bush's last year in office the deficit was 161 billion. Last year Obama's deficit was 439 billion. The deficit Obama cut in half was his own trillion dollar deficit after he was in office in 2008.
