Default Is this normal?

In the center console in my 02 C5 it gets really hot, I like to put my phone and iPod in there, and when they need charging I have a good place to charge them, when I take the phone and or the iPod out they are super hot, is it normal for it to get hot in there, and what can I do. Thanks

Yes - this is a common issue. There are companies that sell an insulation liner for the floor inside the console. You can also insulate underneath the entire console to improve the temperature. Good luck.

Heckler has a kit to do the full insulation. Lowe's also sells a durmat type insulation. CAn't remember who had the console liner but I'll continue to search unless someone else comes up with it. Off to Cars & Coffee. I'll check back later.

and yes, that area of the console does get very hot. There is also an insulation kit the goes on the tunnel support that helps reduce the heat inside the car.

put some adhesive heat barrier under the car in the tunnel area and on the tunnel plate... some companies sell a thicker tunnel plate that is ceramic coated and has heat barrier on it as well... ceramic coating the exhaust will also help but not many people go that route

It is a monthly get together of hundreds of different cars Vettes, Mustangs, Chargers, Lambos, Ferraris, Maseratis, etc. This one takes place in Charlotte. You may want to Google cars and coffee to see if there is one in your area - good place to meet and chat about cars.

I bought the console insulator insert this spring. Before the insert my Ipod and phone would get real hot. Ipod would even shutoff. With insert in they feel cooler to touch and have not shut off from heat. Had Ipod on my recent 1600 mile trip nonstop. No issues.

Here is forum vendor and post. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...insulator.html
