Default Exhaust plate

The 50th anniversary plate above my tailpipes is shot. Vinyl lettering on it is 90% peeled off. Any idea on how it's secured, and where to obtain another? I looked around online - some "cheaper ones" were very similar, but I have no clue how they attach. The gm licensed ones are stupid expensive for a dumb little piece of metal that probably no one will see...

So just stick a screw driver or knife behind it, and slowly pry off, then tape on the new?

Guys sorry, I don't mean to derail..

..but my new '99 needs a plate, it has never had one from what I can see. So I guess a good cleaning under there and double-side tape is all I need.

Luckily I found a cherry used plate for a sweetheart price.

Kcobain I see a bunch on EBay..good luck !!

The exhaust enhancer plates are held on with double sided tape. As mentioned, a putty knife or even some fishing line (saw through the tape) will get it off.

As for where to buy a new one - you can try places like Mid-America, Ecklers, West Coast Corvette, etc. They all seem to stock various options for the car.

I forget which company I ordered mine from but it came with 3M double sided tape and after a good press it felt like it was welded on. Line it up carefully......

If no one will see it then why worry about it??

lol...couldn't resist...

Every exhaust plate I've seen uses the 3M tape or something similar. That stuff can be a bear to work with...

be careful prying it off, the tape sticks on very well and the tub is fiberglass so if you are too aggressive you can easily crack the tub area

If you heat up the exhaust plate with a hair dryer, the tape will soften and be easier to remove.

I used velcro to attach mine.

I'm not paying $40-$50 for a piece of metal so I went to Home Depot, bought some sheet stock, and I now have a few plates that I can change out periodically. I have one that is currently bare, another that is black w/ blue vinyl to match my wheels, and another that has a carbon fiber vinyl wrap. For each ones with the vinyl, I sprayed about five layers of clear coat on the plate to seal the vinyl in on the edges. It's held up for half a year now.

Obviously being velcro'ed I can swap them out when I want to. Now I just need a cleaner exhaust setup.

I need to do this. My C5Z didn't come with the plate and I've always wanted something to fill in this gap and to take your eyes away from the eroded exhaust mounting bracket that makes me left pipe hang lower than the right.
Maybe I'll go to Lowes and get some sheet and just vinyl whatever over it. I've got a plotter so I can just cut whatever the f I want onto it.
MEHHHHHHHHHHHH lazy.
