Seriously though, 38xx pounds and 320 hp? I don't see why anybody would have bought the XLR over a MB SL when it was new. There is a reason this car is rare, not because it's unique but because nobody wanted it when it was new and it was seriously outclassed by the competition.
Power isn't everything, and wouldn't save that car for me (nor do any of those mods). The top one doesn't look too bad, but they are far too square and jagged for my taste. Kinda agree with the lipstick on a pig comment...
I loved my '13 GTI. So far, the best car I've owned.
I've heard nothing but good things about the GTI, especially when used as a DD type car as it's good at everything.
I actually did briefly own a Jetta TDI a few years ago. I traded it off but wish I had kept it now as I would have gotten a pretty sweet dieselgate payout.
That RCR video is so wrong about some things. First off, the XLR is based on the C6. The RWD northstar doesn't have the issues of the older FWD ones. Sure it's a slower thirstier C6 with a nicer interior and a retractable hardtop. It also has things not available or limited to higher models on the C6 like Magneride, rain sensing wipers and adaptive cruise control.
I wouldn't buy it to resell though. I also wouldn't buy a '04-'06 with the 5-speed auto either.
I had an '06 on lease that I put around 30k nearly trouble free miles on. The only issue was one sensor for the hardtop. I have to say it does sound really good with an aftermarket exhaust on it.
