Default Battery symptoms

Is it possible to have a functional battery yet have negative hydrometer results. I used multiple testers and different styles. All said the cells were dead. Volts on bat is 12.5 and load tester for 10 seconds = 11volts. Batt is one year old.
Also, what is the typical current output of the alternator if the battery is charged. I want to check it.

^^^ Third link is very important.

Do not, do not, DO NOT, use your current C5 alternator as a core. Most of the remanned and aftermarket "C5 alternators" are actually generic GM crossover parts and thus they do not have the duty cycle function for the PCM. Installation will cause all sorts of electrical issues.

If it turns out to be an alternator issue, either have yours rebuilt or, if you are buying one, make sure the seller knows it's a C5 alternator, not that "it'll work on a C5."

Side note Q.. Is there something the shop needs to know about the alternator to rebuild it?

Default P/n

Wouldn't the P/N on the actual unit tell if its for a C5. I Would think so. ie if you order a new a/c delco one from Rock Auto, it should be the real deal.

LMAO...... You would THINK so but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,

That's why we are WARNING YOU!

More times than not,,, you will get the WRONG ONE! TRUST US!

They look exactly alike but only the GM LS1/6 C5 alternator will work properly!

Take your car to a alternator / starter repair shop and have them fully test your charging system. Your Battery CCA and Reserve Capacity needs to be in spec to work properly with the cars electronics.

They can also properly test the alternator output voltage and charging current. They need to vary the duty cycle to insure that its able to meet the charging system demands.

Everyone who knows C5's a lot better than I has advised me that under no circumstances get a generic replacment, get your alternator rebuilt by a good/recommended shop. Best wishes!

And for those who think a battery under 12.5 volts is bad... YOU ARE WRONG!!
My new bosh is 11.7v and ALL of my other 8 cars are under 12v.
