I'd like to have a C7, but the thought of parting with that much money along with the fact they would give me a ridiculously low amount for my C5 keeps the C5 in the garage. Besides I really do like my C5 - it has been a trouble free car for the 7+ years I have owned it, has classic styling, still puts a smile on my face when I drive it and best of all, it is paid for.
Not sure if depreciation is worse than spending money on mods you'll never ever see back...
To me it's just different ways to spend your money. Faster doesn't mean better; and if styling is anyhing about subjectivity, I wouldn't be caught dead in the OP's car. It is the pinnacle of flamboyant corvette yuck.
What keeps me after my c5 is mostly the dimensions of the car. It's much lower, and svelte.
Much of that is crash test standards and such; but as time marches on, it is interesting to see it as a sole surviving car with flip up lights and that super low nose. The firebird will be the only other pop up car that won't fall to ruins with its fan base. But even still, they are less likely to be kept nice and aren't exactly near as sleek dimensionally.
The c7 has me a crux of 'almost' design and engineering wise. It will be interesting to see the c8; that's for sure. I really, really dig the wide body c7s. They make the rear end work and I like how aggressive they are overall. The interior falls short to me with the half and half gauges though. Im also not 100% on the loss of the sail panel; but that's just evolution. It's just kind of a BIG car is all. It's bulky in its dimensions.
Design changes, but we will never see another corvette as understated as the c5 for subtle curves. It will never look modern, but it's oddly OK. It mimics the IMSA racecars of the 1990s with the light bulging, the swept windshield rake and the long tail. Aerodynamically, they have yet to produce a more slipperly corvette than the c5 coupe. They likely never will; as that drag helps handling and stability on newer models. But it still rings true.
It's significantly lighter, smaller, and lower. The c6s do not feel the same inside. It's really the last of the 'traditional' corvette. That makes it worth enjoying.
Until I saw this, I thought the c7 was good looking. You, sir have a beautiful c5! I still love that c7 interior, but the c5 exterior lines are gorgeous.
I've posted about this before because I own both a C5 and a C7 can actually speak to the high and low points of both. To each, his own, fellas. We all have different tastes and means by which to fulfill them. I bought a slightly used '14 Z51 C7 as my dd and have loved every minute of it over the past year and ~20k miles. It's truly a pleasure to drive and gets far more attention than my C5 ever did, which I still own and love. I like the C7 so much I'm considering moving up to a Z06 but I'd like to see what the mid-engine version looks like first if and when it arrives. Denigrate it all you want but it's one of the best selling gens to date and the new GS has been proclaimed the best Vette ever due to its excellent balance. Just like with the C6, there will always be those who won't take to the new gen. I certainly don't take it personally but I would like to thank the C7 design team for continuing to push the envelope of looks and performance.

I have come to appreciate the C7's engineering a lot more in the recent past months especially since I've delivered a few "Snowbird" C7's from NY to Florida. The overall looks, I'm still getting used to but, there's no question the interior in the C7 is a giant leap in the right direction, it feels "solid" and like a glove, very well laid out design. I was really impressed with the Callaway conversion C7 Z06.
It's a more capable car than what the C5 is, and I'm perfectly okay with that, it should be. The look of the C7 is not one of my favorites but, that is my opinion. In the market to buy one? Sure, if I wanted to, I just don't want to. I'm perfectly happy with what I have, and honestly if I was to buy another Vette I can think of other years that I'd rather have.
So, I say to the C7 guys. You have a great car, no question. Glad you like it enough to own it, and you should be proud of it, it's a Corvette.
If I decide to sell my Z06 in the spring I will probably be going to a C7 Z06 or Grand Sport. I do like the C7. My biggest problem is I might have a hard time giving up my 2004 Z06. I still enjoy driving my car and it looks good. Can not afford to own both. But then on the other hand I'am in no rush to buy one till GM gets all the bugs worked out. Their is still a lot of issues going on with the C7 if you read about on the forum.

Gorgeous car, I used to have 93 C4 in that color. Still wouldn't want it over my 98. Today I get to finish my engine install and get the beast back on the road.
The biggest problem I see with this thread is the low reading comprehension of some of the posters. I never said the C7 wasn't a nice car. I did say I wondered about how great a C5 would be if all that money spent on a C7 could be applied to the C5. Different discussion all together.
Maybe if those who posted such comments could pull back their butt hurt and actually think about it, they might try a different response.
Edited to add.....Wow did I say that was a beautiful C7?

We must have read different comments because the only one that appears butt hurt is the one who started this thread. This thread was a troll attempt at best, and a weak one at that.

I wonder why you post such hateful comments? Troll much?
I would ask the moderators to close out this thread...I simply made the comment for discussion about the premise of spending such a large sum of money on one generation and what could have been accomplished on a custom C5.
I have built custom vehicles on occasion. Then getting childish comments from the few pissers is not acceptable.

I think what a great custom C5 I could have for that money they threw away on C7.
I have both. Different cars I will say that with pros and cons to both.
I will take your statement at face value. I didn't throw away money on a C7 but for the second part....WHO in their right mind would spend 50k on modding a C5? (assuming you went with a bone stock C7, never mind a Z51 loaded like mine)
You will NEVER see even half of that cost back so I would ask why spend new car money on modding a 20yr old car that will never have that level of resell value? (unless its a track/race car)
I think what a great custom C5 I could have for that money they threw away on C7.

How about you re-read your original post. You don't think stating c7 owners 'threw away' their money is hateful? yes mods should have closed this thread after that first post.
I for one, love our C5 but want a C7. As others have said, from a purely personal choice I like the styling of the C5 better and the interior space. But from a mechanical standpoint I want to have a new C7 that reliably take me out the next ten years (to age 78) when I either croak or my kids take the keys away. If I kept our C5, it would be over 20 yr old and just don't want to depend on that old of car for my travels. Yeh, I know a lot of you will say C5 is reliable and easy to fix, and it has been for us (except when the battery went dead out in the middle of no where on a trip, but that was my fault for having a old batt.)
