I suspect they probably did some mods to it with a tree.
I was thinking the same thing!!!
Reminds me of a trip I made to Florida, back in '79. I was driving past a Chevy dealer in Ft. Lauderdale, on Federal Highway, I think, and I spied what looked like a "current" Corvette convertible in their showroom. Knowing that Chevy hadn't produced a 'vert in several years, I had to stop and take a look.
Turns out, there was a local shop that the dealer was working with, that was doing the conversions to brand new 'Vettes, and the dealer was selling them.
I did the conversion to a 97 coupe. Was not difficult...I could probably do the whole thing in a weekend with a buddy...and still have time to drink a cooler of beer
The FRC was reportedly designed for Corvette T1 racing at the request of the engine performance group. They put the crappy seats in because they thought people would be taking them out and putting racing seats. The 99's used the standard sway bars and the bigger bars were introduced for the 00's. It was priced cheaply and with few options trying to keep the price under $40K.
