I just spent the last 2 days installing aftermarket HID headlights and fogs, had unplugged the battery a few times during the install.
I have the LMC5, (with the brown wire mod) for close to three years and never had a problem with this.
My battery is fully charged now, altho it did run down at one point where I couldn't start the car before I unhooked it during the install and put the charger on it.
I keep getting the SCL message on the DIC, even after I reset it. It comes on at starting the car, and after I shut it off, despite resetting it each time. The car starts and runs great, the DIC gives me a battery reading while running at ~14.2 V, and with the engine off my battery reads 12.7V measured at the terminals with the hood open and the underhood light on, before the car goes into sleep mode. So I don't think it's from low battery voltage now.
And there are no codes.
How do I get rid of this recurring annoying SCL message?
While I don't doubt your advice for a minute, can you tell me why this would work? Does it refresh or reboot the computers inside the car? And why is overnight any better than 1 or 2 hours? I will try it, but - then what do I do if this doesn't get the message to disappear?
But with good battery voltage now, I don't know why the message still recurs, unless like 8vette7 says, the BCM has lost it's mind and is out of sync, like other people I know.
I will do both of those things - disconnecting the battery and I have a load tester. I was thinking of that, when the battery died after only lighting up the parking and rear lights for an hour or so. Seems to me it should have been able to start the car after that.
The battery is relatively new, probably less than a year old (I have to look) and has worked flawlessly in that time.
Be back later with results. Thanks.
I have the same bypass and 90% of the time it works. The other 10% or less, I get the "pull key and wait 10sec" message. I also have the dealer fix as well, so the column never actually locks and the fuel cut was removed by my tuner.
When the message pops up, I usually turn off the car and right back on and it's gone. It's just that sometimes the module doesn't prevent the message...no idea why.
OK, I left the battery unhooked for an hour and a half, and it tested good with my load tester. It now reads 12.6V and has a sticker on it saying 6/15 so it's a year and a half old.
And now, the SCL message is gone. I had to resync the fob, reset the time on the radio, reset the memory button on the driver's door, but right now everything seems to be back to normal.
What a pain it was to remove the original headlights, install the new ones, redo all the wiring to the ballasts and bulbs to get the polarity right, readjust/re-aim the lights after freeing up and lubing the goldenrods, remove and realign the headlight lids a few times, and then get that stupid message. But it's finally done and now I have to wait for a dark night to go for a ride to check out my new lights (JWM's HID lows, my HIR brights) and see if all that was worth it.
Thanks for the help.
Did you do the "brown wire mod" on the LMC5? If the LMC5 was bought within the last year and a half or so it should have the capability for the "brown wire mod" which is explained on page 2 of the install instructions. The early version(s) of the LMC5 from back in 2012 and 2013 may not have the same capabilty.
That mod should eliminate the "Pull key........" message.
I don't recall anything about a brown wire mod in the instructions. I installed as long time ago, maybe 2011.

My first problem when I bought mine (column lock), May of 2014 and mine did not have the brown wire, I think it came with the brown wire later that year. I have never had the pull key message since the install.
When I did my LMC5 a little over 3 years ago I got the Pull Key message and the engine cutoff a few days or weeks later (don't remember), then I did the brown wire mod and all's been good ever since.
If you're having a problem. call the vendor at Compliance, he's extremely helpful and very knowledgeable and will solve your problem.

We have an electronics guy here at work, very knowledgable.
I remember he told me a while back that older electronics tend to hold a charge. So more time is needed to let codes clear out.
Since the Thread Starter had the battery go dead during the work he was doing, something could have happened to the battery and I have seen more than one battery have voltage at the posts but not be able to pass a load test......
That is exactly what happened to me. Near new battery that was defective caused me all kinds of funky stuff including the column lock message. Replaced with new battery, all issues gone.

Have it removed, Jeremy of FasterProms.com did mine thru the 'Street tune' he did on My C5 6speed convertible and also removed the goofy shift mode for me. I like to row the gears on my own volition. No 2 to 4 for me. He travels all over and is located in Lutz, Fla. His Dad was a famous Chevy tuner and taught his son well and with a computer, Jeremy is topnotch. He also did my SSR 6.0 and it tooks 300 lbs of feel off the heavy truck. Call or email him. 813.476.7364
