It's a great job. Dealing with inner city traffic, and delivering cars to some of these residential areas and gated communities can get nerve-wracking to say the least. Loading or unloading cars at night and inclement weather can be very stressful. Ferrari's, Aston Martin's, Corvettes, Porsche, Lambo's, and you have to be oh so careful to not bottom them out, and backing them up in a straight line with barely an inch to spare on either side, major PITA.

Fantastic money, I even get tips. Yes, I'm away from home a lot but, I stay busy so time flies, have been on the road now well over a month but, I don't have immediate family at home, so it doesn't bother me. I get to stay in a hotel every night, eat out, and for the most part don't have to answer to anyone or be in a workplace environment and listen to people whine about their personal drama or watch them zombie out on a cell phone.

One of the great perks is being able to order parts for the Vettes while I'm away. By the time I get home everything is waiting for me, or anything else for that matter.

Honestly, to be a good OTR driver, besides the necessary skills to operate a rig, is being a self-starter, not minding hours of solitude or missing the comforts of home. In a way, it's a lot like the Military, which is also not for everyone. It was a fairly easy transition for me to adjust to.

People will always need food, clothing, cars, medicine. Job security is a great thing and peace of mind.

It is definitely a job I don't think I could do full time. Lots of time on the road in all kinds of weather. to those that deliver the goods.

It's never a fun job in the ice and snow.that pic is from last year In Chesapeake Va.We do it all to keep America moving forward. If the trucks stopped, with in 36 hours this country would be crippled,48 hours people would start to die.(no meds delivered). The most priceless load I've moved was 42,000 pounds of insulin. As truck drivers,we are all proud to be doing our part to keep America alive and well. If you got it,a truck brought it.... AMERICA MOVES BY TRUCK

thanks for the thread, Pounder

My best friend, known him for almost 60yr, is OTR trucker. He called me from Utah yesterday asking me to check weather radar for him. He was heading over the Rockies to Denver and wanted to avoid chaining up for snow.

Hearing his stories has scared the crap out of me to drive close too, beside or behind a semi. In the summer he drives in his underwear and pees in a liter jug without slowing down

( 1000 th post, only took almost 10yr, )

well, he doesn't have too many socially redeeming values, makes him a good candidate for OTR I guess. But I've know him since we were 8 so I just put up with them.
