Default Exhaust thread

Is there a thread with people who have different exhaust setups? If not, would people be opposed to making one? Then maybe eventually it could be a sticky

There are more than likely 5000+ threads with tips, recommendations and info on everything that you would ever want to know about C5 exhaust mods.

Exhaust systems are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard to recommend because what is good for me OR loud for me, may be too quiet or too loud for you.

The most IMPORTANT thing that you need take away from this post is, "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?"

FACTS:

1. Exhaust systems are normally considered CAT BACK only. When you add most any aftermarket exhaust to your STOCK C5, the most that you will gain is approx. 8-12 HP (if that). Our stock exhaust is NOT that restrictive HP wise.

2. Change the Cat Back exhaust system for the SOUND and LOOK that you desire. NOT to add GOBs of HP!

3. IN CABIN DRONE: Some cat back systems will introduce "In Cabin DRONE". Its an ear splitting MOAN that occurs under load and part throttle cruising in the 1500-2000 RPM range. IT SUCKS!

4. There are too many sound clips out there that you can down load and get an idea what the car will sound like. Its difficult to make a good call on what is truth and what is fiction... You SHOULD find C5 with aftermarket systems and ask for a ride. If you like it,, COPY IT!

NOTE! Engine mods like heads and cam or deletion of the CATs make SIGNIFICANT changes to the cars sound level. If the car you listen to has performance heads and a performance CAM installed, your STOCK car will not be as loud or as bold sounding!

What is your GOAL for replacing the exhaust and what MODs do you have or plan on getting??????

Your best "help" with any sort of exhaust recommendation is to hear it in person. Exhaust, regardless of the degree of work done, tends to be one of the big initial modifications Corvette owners make, and they often further go through stages the longer the owner has the car. Your best bet is to go to a local club('s) meet and look at a range of Corvettes in person. You're likely going to come across tons of individuals that have performed exhaust modifications.

Plus videos and descriptions can only go so far. Ex: you can have three CF members, with the exact same Borla setup, take video of their setups and describe their setups, and you'll likely get three different descriptions and three varying sounding videos due to the devices people use to record their videos.

with both of the above. Go to some shows and ask owners who have an aftermarket exhaust on their car if they will let you hear it. They can also let you know about the install and drone issues if any.

Your best bet is to check out youtube videos, or go to Corvette Shows and ask owners about their systems and see if they would give you a listen.

I know there are tons of possible combinations and that cams can alter sound. I was just curious to see if all the information could be put in spot to make it easier for others to find is all. I'm a member on SVTP for when I had my past three mustangs (04 cobra, 12 Gt, 15 Gt.) the cobra threads had all the videos stuck in spot as a sticky so new members and even existing members who wanted to get an idea of what it might sound like could easily find what they were looking for instead of scrolling through thread after thread.

It really doesn matter what anyone else has, and sound bites from your speakers are always compressed. the only way anyone will know what they like is to actually be in a car and feel the exhaust note.. yes Feel... sound is measures by pressure. You will never feel that same pressure unless you are under actual conditions..

having a thread with opinions on exhaust is usually a self serving and very inaccurate measure, because for most, they make a choice, and learn to live with it, and always support their choice in the hope that others will agree.

Having " it all " in one place ( thread ) is just a collection of opinions that have been " settled on " by the member. Some will be much more accurate than others... Example.. many people buy exhaust systems that are notorious for drone.. many people who own these systems will swear that they have no drone.. I've seen it here 1000 times over my 16 years here.

The only true test of an exhaust system is by the persons ear and body presence in a car with the system being considered. and at different RPM ranges, drone usually occurs around 1500 rpm ( usually in 6th gear ) and usually the most offensive on a trip where you might be in the rpm range for 30 minutes or several hours.

I agree with ET, sound clips are kinda worthless as are other people's opinion on what is loud, I had corsa extremes on my stock motor and loved them, they are just straight pipes with resonator off one side, this same exhaust was way too loud for me with a cammed 383 and headers so I put on z06 Ti's and love them.

Go listen to them in person or you may buy twice. JMO

I don't think he is saying he shouldn't listen to exhaust in person. I think he was expressing a desire to have clips of different exhaust in one place. Obviously nothing can replace real experience but if I didn't hear a sound clip of B&B PRT's back in '07 I never would have ended up with a set.

I guess no one else wants to load clips OP sorry.
