Default skip shift

Greetings... I finally got aound to purchasing a skip shift eliminator from PFYC. It seems simple enough to install, but the curious side of me wonders how exactly it works. Could anyone out there give me an explanation that isn't too complex but not quite so simple as you plug the white part in here and the black part there? Thanks in advance.

I haven't crawled under the car yet to look, but it appears the white part, which has a blue bar across one end, plugs into the transmission and the black part, which has a plug on one end and has a cap on the other, like a vacuum line plug, which I pulled off and it looks like that it is siliconed over and reminds me of a shorting plug we used to put on AIM 7 missiles when I was in the service. The instructions were a little vague. Is the resistor in the white or black part?

I need to order one my self, I just bought an 01 convertible with 21k that is 100% bone stock, and it was instantly annoying after having one installed in the 04Z.
