Depends what color the car is. The black car with the black wheels looks good to me, Similarly chrome with a red car. Black wheels, red car? Not so much. There was a pic here years back of a silver coupe with the glass roof in and that upper panel between the roof and the hatch in gloss black. He had put on black wheels but with polished rims - looked great and a bit unique.
I have a silver coupe with ZR1 replica wheels. I thought they looked great when I first put them on, though they are a PITA to clean. The wagon wheels look ugly, IMO, so they had to go. (Still sitting in my garage if anyone wants them).
Anyway, now I sorta wish I had gone with C6 Z06 wheels - but I am not spending money on any more unnecessary big ticket items for this 20 year old car, as I hate watching my cash effectively go down a hole in the ground. I will keep it maintained and running well, but no extravagances. Besides I just spent my pocket money for this week on a new DD - also silver, as it happens.

Dude. Why make a comment that you KNOW is going to insult some fellow Corvette owners? I'll admit that when the discussion of chrome wheels comes up I sometimes share my opinion about chrome.
But, you're just blatantly coughing up a knock on those who like black wheels.
In case you're wondering. I have black C6 Z06 spyder wheels. I can't count how many people stop to tell me how much they like my C5. At the same time, nobody comes up to me to tell me they hate black wheels.
Beautiful ride but I tend to not like black wheels as much myself. Those same wheels on your car in bronze I think would be even better
On my third set of wheels. When I decided to ditch the run flats I went an inch taller and a little wider. Got a package from a vender here with wheels tires and sensors ready to bolt on and couldn't be happier.

How about a few pics from A to B to C?
It's always interesting how our tastes change over time.

Well, I can't "come up to you" because we never met, but I hate black wheels.
There is nothing exciting about them, especially on a black car.
True, your coupe is fantastic looking, but I would have chosen chrome wheels on such a dark color car.
Again, personal choice.
And because they were dirt cheap for all (4) and why not :
I plan on selling the thin spokes to replenish some of my outlay. I've always swapped wheels on what I've owned.
1990 Honda Accord LX - 3 different sets
2006 Subaru WRX STi - 4 different sets including snow tires, only 3 sets mounted on the car
1993 Toyota 4WD Xtracab - 2 separate sets
2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road - 5 separate sets including snow tires, only 4 on the truck
2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road - 3 separate sets including snow tires, 1 set awaiting tires
I think it depends on the car a bit but in general, the colored wheels are not my fave and like a little more bling but I know tons of guys that love the black look so I get it and I am warming to them. The important thing is if it pleases the owner then that's what counts! Evidently the chrome/aluminum look is out?
If I may, without getting flamed about my style choices or my age, I'd like to explain my, and many of my contemporaries reasons regarding black wheels. There was a time a lonnng time ago that some models of cars were cheaper than the deluxe versions of same. These cars frequently came with body/neutral/black wheels with dog dish hubcaps. As they aged, many came into the hands of customizers, hot rodders or just car guys. One of the favorite mods was to get a set of Caddy or other luxury car hubcaps to give the cars more flash and style. Trends tend to go in circles and today many customs and restos show up with the old "strippo" wheels with the plain caps. I must say that what I once rejected I now like, but on a newer car, for me, it doesn't work.
Enough background to me, the tire provides enough black contrast to an already dark wheel well. Black wheels enhance that to an extent, so my initial impression is "strippo" even tho' my mind knows otherwise.
I have been weakening, and tho' I still don't like black wheels, especially flat finished ones, I'm finding a lot of the moderately dark ones attractive.
So there's my reasoning.
I'm just the opposite. I don't like the thin spoked wheels. They show way too much of the nasty looking stuff that's behind the wheels. When I get my C5, it will either have chrome wagon wheels on it, or I will put them on...
Does there look like a bunch of nasty looking stuff behind those wheels?
I never thought of myself as having a wheel fetish, but I quickly found myself with 3 sets. The factory wagon wheels...
then a set of C6 replicas in chrome...
to a set of gloss black Z replicas (currently on the car and all 18x10.5)
I never caredfor black wheels on a black car. The deal was local and too good to pass up, so I bought them. Glad I did too, because I absolutely love it now!
I went with a package deal from a CF Vendor. New Wheels, Tires & TPMS. Hardest decision I had was the color. I couldn't decide between the Gunmetal & Black Chrome. Finally decided on the Gunmetal
I've received a lot of compliments and had a few people that told me they weren't a fan of C7 Z06 wheels on a C5... Keeping the barrels clean is little bit of work, but I don't mind at all.
