Default C5 plese help

Hi there still trying to get to the bottom of the electrical confusion of my C5. I pretty well have everything else under control except for the fact that I am getting a c 1285. And a c1288. I'm currently in the process of testing the voltage on the steering wheel positioning sensor. The research that I have found describes for wires however I have five. The voltage that I have found is as follows on the grey wire I have 5.03 volts. On the orange wire I have 4.5 volts. On the light green wire I have 11.78 volt and on one of the blue wires I have 11.78 as well. And the other blue wire which is the same color as the ones I just mentioned is carrying .01 volts.. I would be truly grateful if I could get some insight into this please
Have a nice day

What year? From my understanding 97-2000 had different sensors than 2001-2004, not sure if the number of wires is different.

While I can't help you there is a forum member by the name of Bill Curlee who is the electrical wizard. You may want to try to contact him as my understanding is that he has helped many, many forum members over the years with their electrical gremlins. Good luck!

It is a good thing that this car is so beautiful any other vehicle by now with all the electrical problems that I've had this past 3 years I would have either sold or buried it with my tractor LOL thanks again for the response have a wonderful evening

Bill is a very good source of info on the C5s electrical system. Good luck getting this solved.

Looking at the PDFs I have, the 98 steering wheel sensor should have 6 lines. White, light green, two light blues, orange/black, and gray.

Orange is ground, and should be reading 0 volts. The fact that you're reading 4.5 volts on the orange wire is definitely not right.

I will try to put up a picture of the PDF later today. For now, since there is clearly something wrong with the orange wire not reading 0 volts, you can try to see if you can locate the orange wire at the control computer. That computer is located in the driver side storage compartment in the trunk. Test the voltage there and see if it reads 0.

Here is the schematic for the steering wheel sensor Without RPO JL4 .
If you have the RPO JL4 then you don't have the wire 1765 .

DTC 1288 sets when the Steering Wheel Position Sensor analog output voltages falls outside 0.2-4.8V range.

DTC C1285 is Lateral Accelerometer Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

DTC C1285 can be set any time the ignition is present and the Lateral Accelerometer voltage is less than 0.15 volts or greater than 4.85 volts for approximately 1 second or more.

Oops. I remember reading in the pdf that it was behind the axle, so I thought it meant rear axle.

That one is where the 1st gen C5's had all the ABS stuff located in the rear and not the front

Well I just had a chance to check that orange wire directly at the main control which you sent me the picture of on the front of the engine and that wire has voltage as well at 4.97 I think. My question where exactly does that wire come from I know it's supposed to be ground is that control box the end of the journey or is it the beginning of the journey when I look at the wiring schematics do the little arrows in the cape the direction of wire headed to to power I do catch on very fast and I truly appreciate any help that you can give me
