Default Oil leak

My dealer tells me the oil leak that I have had for some time has caused oil to get into my starter. They tell me the leak is coming from the oil pan at the gasket. They quoted a very high price to fix it. I would like to do the repair myself (replace the starter pull the oil pan and replace the gasket). My neighborhood mechanic thinks that removing the oil pan is a difficult job. He says we may have to a lot of disassembly just to gain access to the pan. Is he correct? Is there a video showing how to?

A lot of things have to be moved to allow the upper oil pan gasket to be changed. The front engine cradle or cross member has to be lowered to gain clearance. The engine has to be supported from above while this process is completed. The exhaust needs to be lowered to get to the starter.

Yes, it is a expensive repair at a dealership. I removed the engine from my 2001 and had to do a lot of the above. I did the job by myself, it can be done at home with the proper tools.
