Default Active Handling Issues

A couple of weeks ago the "active handling" warning came on followed by "service car soon" and I think the wording was "active handling failure".

I retrieved the codes and got C1287H and C1288H along with another 2286H ACDM. When you shut the car off the warnings go away. So off on another adventure on the weekend the rear brakes suddenly went on hard and moved the car over quickly, scary stuff. The "ah" flashed again then the service car warning.

I shut the active handling off and continued to get the messages. Drove all day, no problems then I noticed that on the return trip home I did not see the warnings at all. Turned the AH back on and drove another 80 miles with no issue. Pulled the codes again this morning and got 1287H and 1288H again.

So the question is how does one determine what part is at fault? Steering Wheel Position Sensor, Brake Module, Wheel Speed Sensor and on and on. I can see tossing a lot of parts and money at the problem without ever knowing what the issue really is. Does it ever just fix itself?

Any way of pinpointing where the problem hides itself?

Disconnecting the SWPS will disable the AH entirely until you replace it if you don't want to have to remember to turn the AH off every time you start the car.

Thank you guys for the input. I will get the SWPS changed out and hope for the best. This system IMO is really dangerous. Poorly designed and thought out, if the road had been slick the result may have been a little more interesting.

Thanks again.

The part # is 88965543. They cost about $70. Takes about 2.5 hours to change out.
