Car buyers who are not in the know and are not street smart can easily become victims. If they can not tell if they are being " Played" they can be a victim.. it takes people with a degree of skepticism and the " Path " of research to purchase a car at a fair price.
Do your homework and set up financing in advance so you know what the numbers are going be getting into any car deal....
The last few new cars I've purchased have been through the internet. I never saw the sales person/mgr face to face, until I picked up the vehicle. The deals were great and one was even delivered to my house. I had muli-offers and deals working from different venues until I got the best. It did take up to a month in some cases, but it worked out in my opinion. for a good deal.
again your understanding of my knowlege is flawed
.seems you judge without being smart enough to know how the inside works.. from my personsl and professional association with dealers all over the country.. because I bought a few cars, my knowlege of the business does ot come from that experience, but from 30 years of being smart enough to gleen everything I could from people in the business hat were willing to give me that knowlege. Know who buys cars, and what they are willing to spend. Through he dealer incentive program and corporate policies privy t only us who make a conceptions design for the target market and if the retail side can sell that car to their customers for the profit margin we expect them to deliver. The demographic is one of the first hing we look at... who will buy this car and who can afford it. And can the dealers sell it.
So again don't talk trash to someone who knows a few things. You see I could sell cars , but you could not design them. a car salesman is an entry level job. It's a job that does not require a degree or skill set other than interpersonal skills and a personality.
When ALL Else FAILS Almost ANYONE CAN GET A Job Selling cars.. THE learning curve is very minimal. And if that fails, you can always sell insurances. Or work at the post office.

So, now we know you're an educated snob. Thanks for letting us know. By the way, I ended up building an insurance agency so now you can really look down on me.
To quote Monty Python: Is this the 5 minute argument or the 10?
Sometimes I think certain people only post or respond to posts here to provoke an argument. As my grandmother used to say, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything.
Not sure why the OP posted this whole topic here rather than the Off Topic forum, but he sure got the haters started.
We bought a new car a couple of months ago - the only hassle was the inordinate amount of time we wasted while the dealership prepared all the paperwork. It's as bad as closing on a house these days! Apart from that, very professional and we were happy with the deal we asked for - and got.
I have only ever gone into a dealer knowing what I wanted and being able to pay for it, but I know that's because I am extremely lucky - I did a 5 year engineering training program with a major auto manufacturer, who sent me off to get my degrees on their nickel, and have had really good jobs from that day until I retired. Most are not that lucky, and really are concerned with the per month cost because they are running on a very tight budgets, so they have to be.
Talking to friends and family, it seems that is the used car side of the business that has the "iffiest" ethics - everything from almost inventing vehicle histories to bait and switch on pricing. Better than years ago, I suppose, when it was not unknown to throw VERY heavy oil into an engine, or even a handful of sawdust into a manual transmission or axle to quieten them down.
And as for house buying and selling - never had a problem either way. Most agents, like the rest of us, just want to make a living and they know full well that nothing spreads quicker than a bad rep as a realtor. I always used the most experienced agent in the area - usually easy to find out who has been around for a long time, and who has successfully sold a lot of houses in your area, as against someone doing it almost for pocket money.
The you SO much for the intelligent post, we are on the same page. I posted on General since that's where I've seen the complaints about dealers and only wanted to enlighten members and answer questions. As you have seen that's not what happened. My mother preached the same quote to me as your granny, too bad most never learned it. So many newbies look for advice on buying.
FYI, criticism is a REFLECTION of one's self. I pity those that do it.

Anyone who gets an insurance company to underwrite them, and has enough money to open a one man operation can be an insurance agent.. right out of his house.. that's called building an insurance agency.
So being as you want to call me a snob. let me add this, if you fail at selling insurance as you did in the retail automotive business, remember , there is always the post office.. Every successful Dealership owner I know, lives in a very high priced quality community.. million dollars houses are the norm. Most Owners carry a 10 to 50million dollar note on their floor plan. You see I know these things by association. Failing at one thing, doers not mean you will fail at insurance, but again personality plays a big part in retail auto sales, and its also important in the insurance business./ so with what I see, there is always the post office, no personality required there and they will hire almost anyone. Failing in two pervious careers will not effect your job application.
What a terrible thing to say. I would rather go to the dealer than ask you
You speak in complicated terms when simple will do. The problem with engineers is there is only black and white, no gray.
"I don't care how much you know until I know how much you care"
Giving a SOLICITED opinion is NOT the same as criticism.

You can't even read-or spell. I said "I built an agency". Why do you keep saying I failed. What a jerk you are. I'm sure you have lots of dealer friends since they didn't give a damn about their sales dept., cheating salesmen and managers out of commissions.

Criticism can be constructive or destructive, those who can not handle either should not post.. When someone encourages a bad career path ( sugar coated ) i9t does no one any good.. from my experience, ( it very extensive ) I offer tough love and find only the most mature of those asking, will accept criticism that is not what they hoped to hear.. Granny and her infinite wisdom is stupid when someone who is portraying a negative image of them self and Granny only has nice things to say.. and this person is about to try and get a job..
Here on the internet, people ask for help or critique every day.. You can tell them the truth as you see it, or you can lie and sugar coat a bad issue or idea, and make granny happy but do absolutely nothing for the person seeking help.
For me, IM honest.. If I like something you can take it to the bank that I like it... on the other hand to make my opinion count , you have to know if I don't like it I'm going to tell you.. it make the good critiques credible and not a lie or sugar coated.
If you cant see that logic, " That is Sad "

I get PM's all the time . most thank me, or say I respect your opinion and most of all your honesty.
Most of these peole will not post in open forum... the ones who really want the truth..
However others only want to hear Ganny's children.. the sugar coaters.. one that will uplift a bad idea..
usually those who are not mature enough to handle the truth bitch at those offering direction away from their thoughts.. people willing to give negative feedback before they make a mistake. Those who push back on negative feedback I usually say. Next time you post a request for opinion or advice, Please, only tell me what I want to hear because if its negative, I can NOT handle the truth.
I too sold for a Kissimmee family owned dealership for 15 years. I was a member of the Nada, our owner was very high on ethics. Buyers are liars, and then you have the ones that want something and everything for pennies, usually the ones that can buy anything. They think dealers are the Red Cross, or good will. Listen to what m going to say. PROFIT is not a bad word, again PROFIT not a cuss word. Owners buy dealerships to make a living and feed families.
For those of you who mistreat sales people, when you buy a suit at men's warehouse or dress slacks at Macy's, do you go to the cashier and ask for the invoice? I didn't think so, I was all for one pricing when Olsdmobile tried it. That required discipline among all dealerships, didn't work.

Oh I had a very high CSI we sold 70% repeats and referrals. Shalom brothers.

I'm not sure who this is The Rabbi or his brother... like two good Jewish boys. You are trying to double team a losing battle. You are stupid enough to come to a car forum where most are buyers and call all of us liars because we don't want to send your kids to college.. or pay for your daughters wedding.. we don't think it's fair to make 7grand in profit off of a single car.. or even 1 grand on an entry level high volume low MSRP car.
You two guys enjoy your battles here with all of us liars. At least none of us have to stoop to have to be a car salesman . thanks for the joy you bring

So now you are also a bigot. Learn to read, never said All Buyers are liars. Get off your high horse and quit insulting people. Those low MSRP cars don't have enough mark up to even discount them. The big reason is the overpaid engineers.

if it wasn't for the engineers... who would design and build the cars? YOU???...hehe...he educates people...and some shade tree aholes like yourself can't handle it...its the schmucks like you who get insulted....and you don't get paid as a rabbi because you steal tons of the congregations money...typical
Wow! Just Wow!!! Some of you purport to be 70 something? This has certainly gone past the point of "telling it like it is" and degenerated into a playground arguement between 12 year olds. Not very mature ones at that!
