There is way too much on the table that you haven't included, and there's going to be an obvious difference from private value vs retail.
I'd say in the current market with it being a '98 you're looking at the least a $5K-$8K difference on the Z06 in the private market; the window is large because there's still a lot of unknowns.
Each has their own quirks. A Z06 will be manual only (unless it's swapped) which alienates those wanting an auto, and a convertible will only be a sale to individuals who see convertible-type weather.

Thanks- I'm through the quirks- upgrades on C5 vert- couple bolt ons- tune- replaced anything aging well in advance, including worn interior parts, car has no known real issues- could drive across country tmrw
so say $6k plus taxes- etc plus going through quirks on new Z is prolly over my budget, that could be 10k in no time
... and a convertible will only be a sale to individuals who see convertible-type weather.
...and to individuals who like verts. I live in vert land (no rain for 40 days so far straight), but no vert for me. But a Z, in general is an easy sell IME.
Everything a Z has is bolt on. Hell cars are basically just stuff bolted to a chassis. If you like a vert but want Z performance just bolt the stuff on.

I like verts but I must admit I'm finding the FRC style more and more appealing. Although with enough work you can bolt that on also

You can't "bolt-on" weight savings, internal engine components, body stiffness (FRC), among several other things...
Between the bolt-ons and non-bolt-ons, the OP would be paying more in mods than the difference in purchase price between a C5Z and base C5. And mods you can't really get back in resale value.

NADA has your car's clean retail at $11,350 and the 01 Z is $15,100 so the REAL difference in value is $3,750 . You will find (especially on this site) current owners of "Z" cars have both inflated values and inflated egos in their head.
LOL frc too. Ads that start with rare, 1 of xxx quit reading and find one who lives in the real world
Plenty to choose from...many of these cars are driven hard and put away wet,try to find a bone stock one thats well maintained
If you arent stuck on the z06 performance stuff pick up a frc;you are already familiar witih it just a different look.

There is absolutely zero chance I will sell my vert for $11k- I'll simply keep it- which appears the direction I'm heading- I'm not a track guy- to be honest I'm a hardcore boater-fishermen that owns a vette- so my budget is very limited and this seems like a costly exercise that is far from life changing for me. I've also spent couple grand making the car mine- both performance add on's and cosmetically. She might only be worth $11k to Kelly Blue Book- but worth far more in my head

depending on miles and condition, you can probably get a bit more than that. Post it for sale for what you want (or a little more) and if it sells, great! Now you can get the z! If not, you're out a little time to create the ad.
Ive never driven a vert, but the improvement in fun factor from driving a cammed coupe to a stock z06 was enough to make me only look for z06's. It's all in what you want though, they're all great cars!
If you know your car that well and wont take what it may actually sell for just keep it and do some performance mods. As one above posted says it all just bolts on and it does. Youre probably better off in the long run unless your tired of the convertible and have to have something different

KBB is actually a bit lower than NADA which I have found to be more accurate in my area. The numbers I posted are with average mileage in good condition. Do yourself a favor and don't pour money into performance mods. That will empty your wallet and add little of no value to your vehicle. I will also make many future potential buyer walk away. I'm with you, a boater that owns a vert.
