Hi. I have a 99 with 13XXX original miles. It has the original cassette player stereo with the disc changer in the trunk. This is the original option changer. I load it, It opens and you can hear it checking the cd's. How do I get the cd player to play? Whats the combination, as there aren't any buttons that say cd on the stereo. HELP PLEASE!!!!!
Do you get "err" message on display? Did it work before? All CDs have to be in correctly. and must be the correct format. The player has to finish going through cycle after loading CD cartridge and it takes a minute. I think there is a trouble shooting guide in owners manual.

Mine was doing the same thing, NOTHING. I pulled the CD changer out and discovered the previous owner (I had just purchased the car) had cut a lousy, home made CD and it was stuck inside the CD player. I was able to extract it and it now works fine. Might be worth a look. I also cleaned up the changer while I had it out.
I just bought the car. 13,360 original miles. My first C5. So, I'm a little behind times. I've had about 6 C4's in the past. Sold my last one day before yesterday. Still getting used to all the differences. CD changer has me stumped. So Far anyway. Thanks for all the replies.
Yes owners manual is fine. Took it out of trunk, disassembled and found 3 CD's loaded and stuck. Removed 'em. Reinstalled the magazine, and the dash unit recognized the cd changer at this time. Ha, it loaded 1 cartridge with a disc and 2 additional cd's only. Of course, jammed again. Magazine bad? Changer bad? Beats me. Guess I'll get another changer.
Mine was the same way . Jambed when I bought the car. Pulled the unit out and removed the jamb. Reloaded discs again and again and all it would do was jam over and over. With one disc in the cartridge it would play fine but with two discs it would jamb. i gave up.

You might need to have all 12 CDs in the cartridge and they must be put in upside down in the cartridge.
GM used another changer in several models that use the same wiring harness. These are made by Panasonic and are 6 disc changers. I bought one on ebay for 49.00 NOS and it works great. That's my recommendation. Just look at the plug type. It seems to be proprietary to GM vehicles. Good luck.
