Spent a few days in Gatlinburg and just had to check out the Vette Museum. The first photo is the '62 sinkhole victim coming back to life. The bodyman looks proud of his work, as he should be!

If you're a Corvette enthusiast, or heck, even if you're not, the Corvette Museum is a great place to visit. Amercia's Sports Car history on display, amazing cars to look at and a gift shop on site.
Ed, thanks for the pics!
Jack, I agree it's amazing to see the history of the Vette.
I cringe though, every time I see the mangled mess of historic cars, but understand it is a long, long process to bring even some of them back to life.
Of course, the "do not touch" signs are tough, too. I'd love to have the opportunity to sit in each of the competition winners, and the history icons.

I've been a lifetime member of the Museum for years, but haven't had a chance to visit until about a week ago. I was finally able to cross the Corvette Museum off my "Bucket List"!!! I enjoyed it so much, I already want to go back. I may be a little (ok...a lot) obsessed over Corvettes It's awesome how you can watch them work on restoring the 1962 Vette from the sinkhole. They have marked on the floor in the Skydome where the sinkhole and cave edges were. It's amazing how close other Vettes were to the edge! There are so many little details and touches that make the Museum a place you could easily spend a full day there. I took so many pictures! I didn't even get a chance to check out the Library / Archives room. I'm glad there's a place that takes pride in preserving the history of Corvettes! Like everyone else is saying, it's an awesome place to visit even if you aren't addicted to Corvettes
I've been on one factory tour and visited the museum 3-4 times. Always interesting. Next time I think I may go ahead and get a window sticker to go with the build sheet I pulled from the front bumper.
I may stop by this week on my way to see my grandsons, I only live about 65 miles from the museum so it's an easy trip.
We'll be going back for the 25th Anniversary (2019) as part of the Atlantic Caravan. Plenty of 20th Anniversary pictures were posted in 2014. Remember to WAVE
I made the 1000 mile round trip to the Corvette Museum last year. I actually enjoyed the factory tour more than the museum. But the best part of the whole experience was driving my ‘02. That’s the longest trip I’ve made in it in the 6 years of ownership. I’m hoping to make longer trips once I retire.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, I don't get too much of a chance to visit. Back in 2003, I did attend the 50th Anniversary celebration and toured with the caravans. That was a 2 week vacation and a tremendous amount of fun even with the 6600 mile round trip in 11 driving days.
We stayed in Nashville for that week and that was another great time! Lots to see and do in Kentucky and Tennessee (like a trip to Jack Daniels! )
The NCM has changed a bunch since then and it would be great to see those changes. A trip to the track would be fun too.

We are also from the PNW and went on the Caravan in 2009 with the SoCal group. Awesome trip.
When you visited Jack Daniel's, were you surprised to find out that they are in a DRY county and as such cannot offer samples of their whiskeys after the tour?

We left with the Portland group but after the stop in Boise, we went a different route taking I-80.
We had been told that the Jack Daniels distillery was in a dry county and they could not sell by the drink although they had done so a few years before. But the gift shop did have special bottles that they could sell. That was allowed by a special bill passed in the Tennessee Legislature. The bottles were sealed and the bottle itself was a different design compared to the square bottle we all know and love! Bought a few to take back home.
After the distillery tour, we went into Lynchburg where there was a celebration going on. One of the people with us went up to a food stand and asked for a Pepsi. He was told in no certain terms that Pepsi was not sold there. Only Coca-Cola.
I want to go, problem is, I want to go through both the museum and the assembly plant, but one of them is only open on week days, which makes it more difficult to go. I would have to take time off of work to go. Plus the museum is closed right now, isn't it?
I have a customer near the Museum that I get a chance to see a few times a year. That visit always has a trip to the NCM.
If you ever get a chance, sit on one of the benches when people are taking delivery of their new cars. Everyone has a story to tell and just need someone to listen!!
My favorite. I met a Naval officer who just retired and was single. He went on to tell me because of his career he had never owned a car. He was picking up his first car, a Z06, and driving back to San Diego solo. He had a grin on his face like a 5 year old on Christmas morning!!

The Museum is open 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time. It's the Assembly Plant that is closed and it will not reopen until January 2019. The Plant closed on June 16th.
