Car is stored for the winter Question is this... I know the wheels are 4 3/4 bolt pattern, but what will fit over the brakes? I'm looking at getting a set of garbage wheels and tires to put on the car for winter and take off the regular ones to clean and polish etc. Will a set of plain 15" rims work? Suggestions?
I've read on the forum here, that you don't want to hang the suspension for the winter. I just overinflate the tires to about 45 and put them on carpet patches. My logic, as convoluted as it sounds is to be able to put those wheel lifts on the car and move it without starting it. And being able to deep clean and polish the rims.

Doing it for a month or two should not hurt the suspension. When you are done polishing, put them back on. A lot of people put there cars on stands every winter. To me it seems like a waste to get another set of wheels and tires just for a couple months.
There are lots of people that have left their cars on jack stands for months and months on end to deal with large projects, and have had no problems at all. Me included. I had my car on jack stands for around 10 months when I pulled the drivetrain out to change the clutch and did a bunch of other parts while I was at it. No issues at all with the suspension.

There's always the possibility of having to move the car, in case of emergency, and if it's up on stands, it's not going anywhere in a hurry.
MANY years ago, a friend and fellow gearhead, told me that the easiest way to personalize your car, is to put on a set of aftermarket wheels. So, for the last 40 years, I've been doing exactly that.
With my C-5, the car spends the winter on the OE wheels, and worn OE tires, with 3 12"x12" pieces of carpet underneath each tire. The "good" wheels and tires are in the basement............

Good point, leadfoot4. You never know what could happen. If you can find a good used set of wheels/tires at a really cheap price, it would be a good way to go.
Or you can live in FL where its gonna be 80 today and the top is down as it always is. And the car rolls in and out of the garage very easily!! Sorry had to go there!

lots of OEM wheels available at cheap prices that are curb rashed or painted black (why i never understood) that give you the right size, with tires and you can dont need to worry about fitment, just wait for them they are out there..
