Excellent work on bringing her back to life and giving her a new home! I love threads like this. I've also got the same lights from Radioflyer as you and love how much better these light everything up. Just get ready for people to flash you thinking the brights are on when they are not.. and yes I have mine aligned properly. I've doubled check because of how many times people would flash their brights at me. I need to get the DRLs and the fogs done but I haven't ordered those yet.
Thanks, Mark, for your updates on your car. It's interesting and informative. Look forward to more updates.
Also, liked reading through your "Real Life in the Cloud" narrative. Great to have your business in the cloud so that you can be free to roam. Of course, what will you do when you retire?

Thanks! My wife and I put a decade of work into that freedom, and it was totally worth it. These days we work from our new home in Jasper GA and I wouldn't trade a thing. Retire? Oh hell yeah I can't wait for that, and it just means I get to do MORE. Cars, travel, beer....
Finally got around to aligning the new Radioflyer headlights. I'm flying out tomorrow morning and will be coming home in the dark on Thursday, so it was important to get them right. They were a little low and the driver's side was aimed too far left. When I installed the lights I made sure to spray the adjustment mechanisms heavily with WD40, and there were no issues at all. Now both lights are straight ahead, and adjusted slightly high at a shade over 24". Given the rural area I live in, I wanted just a bit more. We'll see if anyone flashes me.
Driving to the airport this morning at 5am and I love these lights. The alignment made a big difference in visibility from when I first installed them, and actually I might raise them a bit more. After looking at the alignment diagrams, I measured the "high" section of the light, rather than the low section, so I think they are still a bit low. But still just amazing. Highly recommend this upgrade.
First real road trip is in the books, 580 miles averaging 27.2mpg at 62mph. And that is with some in town driving and several back-country acceleration runs. Mom (79 years young) has been visiting with us the last couple weeks and this was the trip to take her home. She has taken this same trip in most of my cars, including this C5, my C4 ZR-1, and the 308, and said this one was very comfortable...once she was in! Obligatory pic behind Mom's place. I've got pictures of most of my vehicles in this same spot over the last many years, including a 38' motorhome.
Still a great continuing story Mark.. nice to see one so well taken care of. Hope the Yellow Machine is safe at the airport all alone. lol
Your trip to take mom home reminds me of taking my grandma home in one of my Corvette's long ago.. she enjoyed the trip but ask me
a few times why i was shifting gears so much..haha... those type of memories we have are the best.
Great read. Hope to get my 02 MY car back soon. Owning it less than 24 hours last weekend on the way home someone backed into it at the hotel.
having problems with getting the paint to match.
maybe I missed it but what size wheels and tires did you put on your car. They look great
thanks Tim

That sucks, I saw your post on it. Best of luck with the repair and I'm glad you can do it yourself. My car is about 800 miles away right now and I can't remember the specifics, but they are 18 and 19" ZR1 replicas. I'll get the exact specs once I get back home. The tires are Eagle F1 run flats and I hate them. Hope to be replacing them asap.
I checked the tires and they are 245-40/18 and 295-35/19. Honestly not sure of the actual wheel widths, but again they are C5-appropriate ZR1 replicas, so should be readily available.
Today was the day I finally installed the CAGS bypass and adjusted the handbrake. My handbrake was basically useless, pulling up almost vertical and not holding the car on anything other than a flat surface. Not good for parking at the airport or basically anywhere around here. I followed Evil Twin's process in the thread linked below, really easy to do. The hardest part was getting the caliper mounting brackets off - I don't think they had been off since 2004. Those bolts were a bitch. I used a caliper to measure the gap in the shoe, and then figured out which way was the right way to adjust them by measuring again. Easy enough and now my handbrake fully engages at about 45 degrees, perfect. Oh and the CAGS bypass? I should have done that a long time ago. Two minute job once the car was in the air, massive frustration gone.

I run 275/35/18s in front and 305/30/19s in back (on CCW 550s). The 305 rear tread width is about as wide as a stock C5 can go without the sidewall rubbing the fenders. So if you rim widths allow it (ZR1 replicas may), you can go up to those front and rear size without issues.
I run Nitto INVOs out of personal preference (mainly because the INVOs have a longer tread life rating than all other options I have found). Of course there are other options in that size, offered by multiple tire manufacturers - some less expensive than the INVOs and others more expensive.
When I research tires (I use Tire Rack's website) I always look first for the tire's tread life rating, followed next by customers' ratings. "Brand" is among the least important factors for me (except for un-heard-of-brand tires generally made in China) - bragging rights doesn't push my buttons. But then tire choice has always been an individual, often subjective, affair.
LOL treadwear life is the LAST thing I consider when buying tires! I value grip and performance above everything. It does mean I replace tires more often, but the tradeoff is totally worth it. I had Nittos on my old ZR-1 and didn't like them very much because of the treadwear. In normal driving they were hard and noisy (not nearly as bad as these F1s), and in an autocross they just couldn't get enough heat in them to grip very well. On the big track, they got hot and gripped very well, but that just wasn't enough for me.
I just double checked and they are 245/40-18 and 285/35-19. I think I could upsize them a little, maybe 265 and 295, but not much more than that with these wheels. I've run just about every brand you can think of, always had good luck with Kumho, Dunlop, Bridgestone and Michelin. I too use Tire Rack, love their service and features. When I get to that point, they will be my main research tool for sure.
That message was followed by LEFT REAR TIRE FLAT and MAX SPEED 55 MPH. Believe it or not, that's a wheel weight stuck in there. What kind of perfect angle manages to get a dull hunk of lead stuck in a tire???? Wow.
