my first corvette, my first "build" thread

what didn't you like about the hinson? i wasn't wild about the design personally. That's why i bought the saccity one

Stiffer differential mounts can amplify some weird harmonics created by the torque tube. In my case, it made a terrible resonant booming that made the car nearly undrivable at cruising speed on the highway. It can be "mysterious" and there's a number of threads of people trying to track down random harmonic issues likely tied to the mount. I put my stock back in that was good, and the noise is gone entirely. No change in performance (shifting, wheel hop, etc).
Also, have you confirmed the shifter movement is the entire driveline or just the shifter itself? A rebuilt shifter box does wonders...

my shifter and box are brand new C6.
i know the driveline is moving because 1. i can feel it. and 2. my headers that don't touch the steering column have left marks on the column. also i get a bit of a shudder on take off when driving very mildly which feels a LOT like a worn mount. Plus my fronts were both completely blown. which will wear the trans mount on most cars much quicker.

aluminum gauge bezels epoxied in
lingenfelter clutch spring installed
flipped the upside down bracket for the knee bolster I still can't wrap my head around that one. The guy bent the tabs to make it work upside down... I can not figure out what he was thinking.
finally installed my shifter boot. I need to get around to the ebrake boot.
tomorrow maybe I'll get to the lmc5...
Before
Shift boot is in
After
I also got the Z06 screens on the front and sides, I think it looks better that way...more finished.
I'm afraid of headers/tune and throwing codes. Did they make a big SOTP performance gain? I'm getting tempted.........to go down the rabbit hole now....
Excellent write up, by the way.

But the headers and mid pipe are almost a must have. plus it just sounds awesome. I'm rocking what i'm assuming is the ebay corsa knock off axle back. and low rpm it's quiet. put your foot into it and it screams. zero drone.
I've been super busy with work/family stuff but i need to toss it on the quickjack and do a few things:
Rear trans mount
2nd washer for anti-venom
drain and fill trans (so that i'm running only amsoil now)
swap my 02 sensors
Not sure when i'll get to it... maybe sunday... It's been hard to work on weekends when we're spending them at the lake...

contemplating changing direction too. I was looking at crate LS3's and rather than going blower on a 106k mile motor... it might make more sense to pull the LS1, swap in an LS3, and sell the LS1 to help offset to price of the LS3... it comes pretty close to the same $ as a blower. It'll make less HP initially, but it gives me way more room to grow.
trying to figure out what a well running 107k miles LS1 is worth...

Or just toss the blower on and send it lol. Plenty of time to think it through.

It comes like this... so if you have the type of relationship with your wife where she gets annoyed when you order parts.. well... you'll want to be aware lol. Mine just laughs (we have a don't ask/don't tell policy about our boxes that come)
it comes well packaged and well protected
the weave and pattern is perfect. the clear is perfect. it's a super nice piece.
so the hole in the middle of the tray, and the 2 holes in the corner of the tray mount to existing bolts that are already under your car (to hold the bumper on). I removed the flap and 2 aluminum brackets so i could get this lined up easily. i ran those 3 bolts in semi hand tight. then i worked my way from the middle outward drilling a small pilot hole through the provided holes in the carbon splitter into the bumper and then ran self tapping bolts with fender washers in loosly. i did that all the way to the outside edges and ends of the splitter. Then went back and tightened all the bolts.. everything lined up 100%. i mean it's dead nuts on. no gaps. no fitment issues. This thing is extremely well designed. once it was on i reinstalled the rad flap and then the 2 aluminum brackets which also support the back side of this tray. With that spring/flap installed this seals up the bottom gap and directs all the air to the radiator. It essentially makes the c5 a front breather.
Once the bumper was on the next challenge was seeing if it would clear the lip on the garage and deal with the curb/incline on the driveway. I'd say this sits 1-1.5" above the rad flap/stock air dam (no idea what you call that). it does look like you can reinstall the 2 small air dam pieces on the outside as well. I didn't. But i may. I had them off from the old ebay splitter. Anyway, on to if it'll clear the garage lip
it's so close! lol

but it clears.. and MAN it looks good! (gave it a quick wash too)
so next test is will it make it out of the driveway (which is steeper than it looks in this pic)
YES! but barely!!!!!
Drove over to my buddy travis's (which if you're following, he lives in my neighborhood, has the yellow z06 he traded his mustang for).
It looks so good. I'm getting boatloads of hate on the corvette pages on facebook. So many old men complaining about me making my car less driveable. If this was a DD there's no way i could live with this lip and being as low as I am. But this isn't. I drive it whenver i feel like it. I'm not one of those guys that even thinks about mileage and what not. But the reality is it gets driven in the evenings on back roads, on highway trips, and to the autox pad. That's kind of it. I have a company car for work. So there's no reason to daily this when part of my pay (that i'm taxed on) is a company car (which is a focus st currently). I'd rather put the wear/tear of daily driving on something that costs me $0 than daily the vette.
However, for what i do with it. This lip and setup just does it for me. The car sits exactly how i want it. the lip looks amazing. I can get in/out of my garage/driveway. No it won't go over a speed bump. But it wouldn't do that before i put the lip on (i have scrapes on the long tube collectors to prove i tried).
It REALLY makes me want side skirts... i'm just hesitant because the quick jack barely slides under as is. so we'll see.

The best thing i did was buy the 70 dollar ebay lip first and run it to see what it would clear and what it wouldn't. that was good learning experience with a 70 dollar splitter vs a 500 dollar one. I'm giving it to a buddy tonight and he's going to toss it on his lol.
